Question...
I have some problems with my XD .45 that others havent had, at least that I have heard. So I was wanting some ideas, that any of you might have. I will preface this by saying that I am more of a shotgun guy, but I do pretty descent with handguns, and have owned quite a few.
My question is that with target loads, my gun is all over the place.....I have tried the American Eagle, Winchester target (from Walmart) and so on. Others on here seem to like them for target loads, so I dont understand. If I shoot the personal protection stuff, like Hydra Shocks, the guns shoots very well. I have tried everything from trying to analyze my grip, trigger pull, etc, and I cant understand whats going on....has anyone on here experienced this as well? My buddy has the same gun but the Bi-Tone Stainless version, and he has the same problem. Thanks in advance |

It's likely NOT you if you are shooting well w/ other factory ammo. Guns are funny, sometimes they just don't like a load. Now when you say "all over", does that mean 3"-4" @ say 15yds and "very well", is that 1/2 that?
I have a USP that shoots 4" groups @ 25yds w/ 155gr WWSTHP. With Speer GD, it shoots 2". |

Actually.............we had a full size refrigerator that we had slapped some targets on, and at 10-15 yards, had a hard time consistently hitting the fridge! Like I said, the hydra-shocks shoot ALOT better! But I cannot justify the cost of "plinking" with hydra-shocks. Because of this, i havent been able to put many rounds through it. I broke it in well swabbing every round, and so on....but honestly, its disappointing when I try to shoot the thing, as I get more frustrated trying to figure out what I am doing wrong, and I cant, especially when I come on here, and hear how well it seems to shoot all loads, and how well it shoots for everybody.

You were having trouble shooting a fridge at 10 yards? I would definitely say there is a problem here. I would suggest have 2 or 3 friends also shoot it. If they have the same result, Call Springfield and tell them about it.
I shoot Winchester Whit Box (WWB) from wal-mart very well. I have actually used it for USPSA. Did you buy this new or used?

I bought it brand new. As far as others shooting it, I have had two other people shoot it also, and it is the same result. And like I said, my buddy has the same gun but the Bi-Tone Stainless version, and he has the same problem. We both were actually looking at what we were probably doing wrong...I cant understand it.
Thanks again |

Your buddy with the bi-tone has the same problem with his pistol too? Or, he has the problem with your pistol only, but not with his? If he has the problem with his too, you guys should trade glasses and see how that works

Doesn't make sense.
Either you are putting us on, exagerating how bad things are, or something is really messed up. 10 to 15 yards should be a tight group. Here's the target from another thread on this forum - 10 to 15 yards.

I understand your skepticism, as from everything I have heard, and read these guns are supposed to be great guns. But I assure you, I am not exaggerating or lying. The first shot I took with this gun, was a clean miss, and that was fine, I moved a little closer so that I could get a feel for how this gun handled. After the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th shot, I looked at my buddy and asked where I was hitting? He just laughed and said I didn’t even hit the fridge. He then tried mine, and his and he was having the same problem.
I was actually registered for a CCW certification class to get my CCW license, and I had to back out at the last minute, as I was afraid I couldn’t hit consistently at 7 yards. I will sign up for another class after I get a holster setup for my 9mm Ruger (which shoots very well). I have a Ruger Super Redhawk .44 also (which again shoots very well, but it should with the barrel length) but it is obviously way to big for a concealed carry gun. A little off the subject for a second here, but I don’t know how many shotgunners we have on here, but when the Beretta Xtrema's first came out, some were having problems with them shooting up to a foot left of POA. When I took mine on its first hunting trip, it shot well at first, but then after I cleaned it and so on, I noticed that the rib had turned a little to the right (actually wasn’t the rib, as the barrel and tang had kind of twisted). When I took it back to the local Scheels where I got it they noticed and agreed on what had happened. They gave me a new gun, and I never had a problem after that. Now I didn’t know if any of you had heard of any manufacturing defects on some of the XD's that had caused any types of problems. I know it sounds crazy, but like I said, I guess I was kind of hoping to hear some type of similar story that related to some type of defect or something. Thanks again guys for all your input. |

Closer ----slower
Start closer...point blank 3-5 ft ---slowly place a few rounds into the fridge ----move back one step-----3 more rounds---one more step ---at a slow rate of fire you will figure out what you are doing or why you are missing....if the fridge survives unscathed trade your xd for a shotgun or get a bigger fridge...good luck

If it is possible see if you can find someone that is a pistol instructor and take a class. I was a horrible shot when I first bought my xd 45 luckily a friend of mine was the SO at a shooting range and did some basic pistol shooting training and after a couple of hours with his help I went from 8 inch groups at 7 yards to 4 in groups. After 2 months of shooting with him I took my CCW class and put 100 out of 100 rounds in a 8.5in x 11 in piece of paper. I am now able to shoot 6 in groups at 25 yards before I learned how to shoot correctly I was lucky to put one hole in the paper at 25 yards.
