New forum member, Just bought XD 45 Service

I am glad I found this forum, lots of great info. I just purchased my XD 45 today. Unfortunately, I am recovering from open-heart surgury and it will be a few weeks before I can go to the range and give it a workout.

I was all set to just buy a .357 revolver and found out that if I take TX ccw class with a revolver that I would have to retest to move up to a semi-auto. So, I started researching pistols, I had trained and used a 1911 earlier in life in the Marines. I never cared for the Glocks and there were mixed reviews on the Taurus M&P, but when I found out about the XD series, wow, so many positive reviews, it kind of made the decision easy. My main use for the XD 45 will be home defense, but I look forward to practicing as mush as I can afford to at the range.

Anyway, I can't wait to get to the range.

And glad to be a forum member.

Welcome!

You should buy some snap caps and dry fire at home while you recover to help smoothe out the trigger since you can't live fire it yet anyway.

I've had my Service for about 2 months now and not one FTF or FTE in 700 rounds. I even went out and bought a 9mm Sub-Compact 3 weeks ago because these pistols are so good for the money. Thet point and shoot element of the XD fit me the best after handling several guns although I will get a Sig P-220 soon too

Just about everything I know so far about my XD or semi-autos in general has come from here.

P.S. Unusual but cool name . . . Is your handle a reference to guitars and amplifiers by any chance?

Good advice, I'll do that, even though I've read that the XD is OK for dry firing, I have never felt comfortable dry firing any weapon, but remember "snapping in" back in my Marine days.

Yep, Telecaster + amplifier is how I derived my screen name, I'm on some music gear forums, and its much easier for me to just use one name everywhere.

I'm on The Gear Page as Reeek too. I own a John Suhr Tele (sold the Suhr Strat, and a host of other guitars. I also have a 1969 Twin with JBL's and a host of other fine vintage tube amps.

Welcome the the XD forums!

Hey Mike, congratulations on the new XD. Sorry to hear about your surgery, but get well soon so you can give that XD a work out.

Best Regards,
Mike

Thanks for the support, I had the double by-pass July 29. I'm going to give myself a couple more weeks for the sternum to heal up before heading to the range.

I already feel much better, just having a hard time sleeping on my back.
