Mike

Welcome aboard! I am down in San Antonio, so if you ever get down this way and want to shoot, drop me a line.

I also have a TX CHL, and wondered about the revolver-restriction if you shoot it during the qualification. It is not like there is a reload drill during the process, so I don't know why there is a distinction between the two. I have a couple of revolvers I inherited when my father passed away, and would've shot with the .38 but learning about the restriction drove me to buy my XD (yeah, right! That's my story and I am sticking to it! ). As you know, the shooting practical requires you to fire fifty rounds from a handgun of .32 caliber or greater, including 20 shots at three yards, 20 at seven yards, and 10 a fifteen yards. It is quite easy, and the XD makes it a breeze!

By the way, the Texas Concealed Handgun Association (TCHA) web site has some great info on getting a CHL. And of course, the DPS Concealed Handgun web site is another good source.

Cheers! M2

Thanks for the offer, I might take you up on it sometime. I finally shot my XD 45 today. I am impressed with the accuracy.

If you take the CHL course with a revolver, and want to switch to semi-auto you must pass a shooting proficiency test and pay $25 and have your CHL modified (at least that is the way I read).

Yes the TCHL is wealth of good info, I am readng everything I can to prepare. I have found a great instructor that lives close by. I want to get up to speed with the XD first, but will be going through the process soon.
