Doing illegal things is BAD
Especially ones that involve possession of items that can earn you a felony conviction (no guns). You would spend more than $200 in STAMPS for your legal defense if you got caught with an illegal suppressor....just buy the $200 tax stamp for the suppressor and do the papers and save money, and sleep soundly Bill |

Yes, a .45 pistol can be suppressed reducing the db levels (no it will not be movie quiet).
EFK firedragon makes extended threaded barrels. I'd recommend spending the extra cash to get exactly the suppressor that you want considering suppressors have effectively zero resale value.

From what I understand there is no hearing safe suppresser for the .45. The only one that I have seen is the AAC black box. Its very expensive though. My advice would be to buy a 9mm with subsonic ammo. That combo is scary quit.

To answer your question about the life of a suppresser. Suppressers will last many thousands of rounds. After that they need to be sent back to the manf. to be taken apart and reoutfitted. I don't know how much this cost but most likly a couple hundred. Besides that a suppresser works best with water in the can. This suppresion level will only last 2-3 mags, until the water needs to be replaced. Hope this answers you questions.

I wish I could throw a Tac-65 on my Savage MKII, that way I would not wake the neighbors when I shoot at the coyotes. Unfortunately Washington state frowns on that sort of thing..

I hope you don't live in New Jersey! In New Jersey, threaded barrels are ILLEGAL because as we all know, a bullet fired from a threaded barrel is 300 TIMES more deadly than a bullet fired from a traditional barrel! Also, any type of suppressor (either noise OR flash) is illegal because even a reduced muzzle flash makes a projectile more deadly! By the way, does a silencer really make that same sound you hear in the movies? Or is it a completely different sound? I've never heard one in real life.

Any noise over 85 decibels will cause hearing loss, so I'd still wear plugs when shooting a suppressed .45. I don't believe any suppressor will make a .45 quiet enough to be considered hearing safe.
