Aren't the tactical and service grips the same size? It's only the compact that has a different (shorter) grip.

You are partially correct. Although the nomenclature is somewhat misleading for instance I have the XD45 compact tactical. So when one says tactical that really just means the 5" barrel; similarly the service has a 4" barrel. The compact has the shorter grip and comes in both service and tactical models. BTW it fits my long skinny girly fingers perfectly. I almost find the extended mag has too much grip for my needs. Maybe i just need to dry fire/practice with the 13 rounder more.

By the way, I'm fully, not partially correct. The tactical and service models have the same sized grip. When you throw the compacts in there, they have the shorter grips. As the service and tactical model (not compacts) have the same grip because it's the same frame, the same applies to your compact tactical and my compact service, they have the same grip because the frames are exactly the same. The slide and barrel of your compact tactical is the same as the slide and barrel on a tactical with a full-sized grip. They're all interchangeable. That's why you see people buy a compact in one size and full-sized in the other, say a full-sized tactical and a compact service because you can get 4 different combinations by purchasing only 2 guns.

![]() I have a 4" XD45 compact, CA-legal (if that changes anything- I don't think so they only have outlawed the 13 round magazine). If you look at the picture of mine, the distance from the center of the magazine release to the bottom of the grip is 2 1/16 inches. I modified an XD40 mag extension to give my pinky finger a little more to hang on to, and I have medium-sized hands. |

I have the 4" Compact .45 and noticed that with the 10 round mag (the only mag I carry) my right middle finger was rubbing on the bottom of the trigger guard right where it joins up with the grip. When I was sending my pistol to Scott Springer I mentioned this and he recommended undercutting the grip/trigger guard junction a little. He performs this operation for a very reasonable fee and it made a huge difference in the grip feel. The pistol now feels like it's on my hand like a glove with the 10 round magazine.
