I returned from the range and was cleaning my weapon and light when I noticed that there were scorch marks on my TLR-2. The only source I can contribute the scorch marks to is the barrel of my weapon. The TLR-2 extends approximatey 1/2 inch beyond the barrel of my XD-45ACP Compact. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so what have you done to resolve the problem? I am going to hate to go out and buy a longer gun and a shorter light/laser combo. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I have the same issues on my TLR-2 when used with my XD40 Service.
I never did, nor do I feel I need to, "fix" the burning. It works fine so far.

Is it real burn marks, or just soot from the powder?

I've had mine for over a year, I've never had a problem nor do I think it's any less effective now then when I got it. I've probabaly shot 1,000 rounds total with the light/laser on the XD40 (which I don't have anymore, now on the tactical the slide is long enough not to burn the device). I'm fairly certain it's burns on the steel of the light, more than just "dirty" from what I've seen.

I have tried rubbing the area with several different solvents and the area remains. I am pretty sure it is flash burn. The effects havent affected the light yet, but I am pretty sure over time there will be some negative effect to the light. So I am going to start looking for a 5" weapon and a smaller light/laser combo for me Compact 45.

The same "burning" effect has happened to my Surefire X200B. At first I thought it was dirty, but then realized it was burned. There has been no change in the output of light. I like the burn look, it shows it has been used.

What do you expect, when you put an object so close to the muzzle?

He expects the object that is designed to be so close to the muzzle to be able TO BE so close to the muzzle without being damaged... Thus, his post...
