I'm not an engineer so this is far fetched but . . .

Too bad in today's micro world someone couldn't just design a cartridge for personal defense that had a single use laser and electrical source built into the bullet or casing of each round somehow. Even if they were butt-expensive. Something embedded in the core of the hollowpoint or something like that. I can't see how it could be in the casing without losing real estate somehow though. The micro-battery could be activated by some device when the round is chambered via pressure or something.

Or even having some way to store a battery inside the magazine that is wired to the chamber so all the bullet needs is the LASER element and no electrical source. Once chambered the LASER is charged by the chamber wall contact or something.

I know this is totally wishful thinking but just imagine if the laser beam was coming out of the center of the hollowpoint, straight through the center of your barrel as if it were a boresight. Once fired the laser is not needed anymore anyway . . .

I'd pay $100 for a box of 20 personal defense rounds rather than messing with all the contraptions today. I know there are good laser products out there but each has it's good and bad elements.

If this were possible it would be almost universal.

I saw this with mine, I think it is maybe lead deposits from lead vaporised from the open base of fmj bullets ?? My gun is a full size service model but 4" barrel same as OP

Anyway my two ideas were.

A. wrap a wrap or two of black electrical tape around it.
B. buy a 5" compact and switch the uppers so the tlr2 gun has a 5" upper

There is a clothe you can buy that has some stuff in it to clean off gun shot residue for lack of a better word, made by birchwood casey maybe ?? that might work if it did not take the finish off too

You could try putting a real small amount of truck bed liner/underbody coating or some kind of bake on enamel on the light to protect it.

It's really just a cosmetic issue; doesn't harm the light at all. Both of my TLRs have seen a lot of rounds, both have the signature scorching, and both run 100%

If you put the rubberized bedliner/undercoating, it'll still burn away, and possibly even melt or smoke under rapid-fire conditions.

Has your scorching gotten worse or stayed the same? I am worried that the scorching will burn through the rotating ring and affect the light. I know you havent had this problem yet, that is why I am asking if the scorching is getting worse or has stayed the same.

I am going to take my TLR-2 to work tomorrow and install a piece of heat shrink on it. That should protect it. I will use white as a test. I'll replace it with black after I see how dark it gets from the muzzle flash.

When I bought my first handgun 25+ years ago for home defense, the salesman told me in a tactical situation to kneel down with the gun pointed at the perp, and hold the flashlight in the other hand with my thumb on the rear when I illuminated him. He said if the perp fires first, chances are the round will go over your head, and then you open fire like in a John Wayne movie.

That is far to much lee-way. What if he shoots low?!
