Just got some Stippling on my XD-45 C ...

After recent shoots in the rain/heat and sweat I noticed my little XD .45 Compact can be a little hard to hold on to. It needed a better grip that offered traction under wet conditions so I decided to give it to a local buddy to do his magic. The pictures speak for themselves. I was totally impressed far beyond my wildest expectations.

Looks good.

How does it feel? I would do that, but I am afraid it would chop up my hands.

He grinds it flat and opens the grove under the trigger and under the tail then uses an iron of some type to dimple it.

Thats what I love about it -- it looks factory.

This guy does do them for $$$ but he is not an FFL so you have to me in the Miami area for him to do it.

That does look great however, I would have a concern.

I dont know squat about stress points and nearly flunked physics, so take this with a grain of salt.

As I understand it, polymer guns tend to flex in response to recoil to a much greater degree than metal framed guns. Given how thin XD45 grip panels already are, does anyone see the potential for this type of stippling to compromise the frames ability to flex and not crack??

Even if the stippling has no effect on the frame's sturdiness - I would bet you dollars to donuts that if the frame cracks for some reason COMPLETELY UNRELATED to the stippling, Springfield is likely going to claim the stippling "was" or "could have been" a contributing factor and on that basis refuse to honor the warranty.

As I said earlier, I'm just kicking this around and claim no particular gunsmithing expertise. I do however have some personal experience with firearms manufacturer's who will find a way to void warranties wherever and whenever it is appropriate to do so.

Does the stippling not void the warranty anyway?

I suppose it might but I think it would depend on the specific nature of the warranty claim. For example, I think SA would be hard pressed to deny a warranty claim involving the repair of a loose front sight blade on the basis that the grip panels were stippled.

But, I suppose it could happen.

This made me chuckle!

I am at work...I am easily amused while at work...evidently.
