Issue with XD45 Compact Magazine???

As I noted the other day in another thread, I went to the range with my XD9 Service the other day and his big brother (XD45 Compact) followed us home...

Anywho, I finally got it all cleaned and buffed and ready to roll, and I loaded up the 10+1 magazine, and I found that it was very difficult to get the magazine "locked" in, and when it was, I had to eject a round before I could get the mag release to work. What's up with that?

I thought maybe it is an issue that has to do with spring tightness that will work its way out after some use, but I wanted to check with you all to see if this was common or unusual.

I got a little concerned when I was unable to release the full mag. Anybody have this experience?

The problem is caused by the new springs in the magazine. I have the XD45 service and when it was brand new, I had the same issue you described with 13 rounds in a mag. The spring will get broken in with use and you will have no problem seating or removing a fully loaded magazine.

One trick I used was to use the magazine loader and when the 13th round was loaded, to press down firmly with the loading tool. This made it a little easier to insert and remove the loaded magazine from the firearm.

Same here with both of my XDs. The service is well broken in now but with 350 through my sc, it still fits really tight. I have to give it a little nudge with my left palm to look a full mag in. But I also have 3 or 4 mags for it, so those 350 rounds are divided amount several springs.

I have a similar problem with my 13x2 Service. But what I've noticed is that a 13 round magazine loaded with the Hydra-Shok JHP is very hard to eject with a full mag while the another 13 round magazine loaded with FMJ target rounds is not.

I figured it was spring tightness--but I was surprised, to the point of being concerned--by how ridiculously tight it was. I literally have to smack the bottom of the magazine with my hand, pretty firmly, to get it to lock in; and I was afraid I was going to break something as hard as I was pushing on the release button. I finally just ejected a round, and then it popped right out.

Hmmm. Guess the only solution is

MORE COWBELL

Uhh, I mean, more range time...

It will get better with use. I still have to smack my mags in, but thats the way it's done with any combat reload, and my gun ain't no safe queen.

When ejecting a full mag that is tight, firm pressure against the base of the mag will make the release buton easier to depress. This saves you from chambering a round when it is not necessary.

Thanks to all--I am relieved that it is not something wrong.

I have the same problem with my new mags. They will loosen up over time.

YEAH to me for reading the forum a bit before posting.

Thanks to all who added to this thread, this answered my 2nd question. I thought for sure a loaded mag would seat without the slide locked back. Had me doubting. And I don't even have 13 round mags (damn you California).
