Reloading .45ACP is easy, and since you already reload a cartridge that headspaces on the case mouth, you are experienced enough to move up. It's going to be very similar to what you are doing now, but on a larger scale.

The Unique, a flake-type powder, just doesn't measure as consistently as I'd like out of my Uniflow powder measure.
Unique isn't the best metering powder but w/ the Uniflow it's all in the technique. I still use my Ammomaster & Uniflow for ahort runs of test ammo. Get in a very specific rythm, use the measuer exactly the same each time. I "knock" at the top stroke & twice on the down stroke. This seems to settle the lighter flake powders & gives a more uniform charge weight.
You are right though, a ball powder will meter better. Try, AA#5 or WSF.

Tell me about it....

Do you see similar results between Unique and Universal Clays or any other powder? I like Unique so far and don't have experience enough with any of them to know what I like the best yet.

AA#5 is suspected in quite a few KaBooms, even with extremely careful and experienced reloaders. I'd use another powder just to be careful.
Here is more information: http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-...thegunzone.com

I use bullseye, but it is very easy to double charge, so I have to be extra careful. Each case gets visually compared to the entire run before bullet seating.

I generally just use CCI Blazer Brass for practice/range work. For my carry load (XD-45 Compact 4"), I use Remington Golden Sabre 230 grain JHPs in front of 4.9 grains of Bullseye and Winchester Large Pistol primers. Of course, I use the spent CCI brass to hold it all together at 1.245 OAL.

If you're gonna shoot a 45, you basically got to reload unless you can afford it.

I reload and cast for other calibers as well (.223, 9mm, .357) but I got 3 .45's so it's kind of a necessity to reload that caliber when retail here in Canada is $17-18 a box or $26 if you run out and have to buy a box at the range.

But as others will tell you, aside from the feeling of making your own, there are other reasons to reload, not just costs. Casting is KEWL because you get to try out different types of bullets, especially if you can borrow/swap molds.

I don't reload YET. But am currently reviewing the subject and look foreward to the day, hopefully within the next 2-3 months.
