.45 super... has anyone tried it in their xd?

I was reading about the .45 super and it seems like it would be a simple change to get some stronger springs from Wolff for my .45 compact and give it a go. Has anyone ever tried such a thing? Would I be better off trying the .400 corbon?

What, +p isn't enough?

I read a thread on here a while back where several people contacted springfield and asked if it was safe to shoot .45 super. They were told different things by springfield; but, the consensus between those people were basically that the xd was designed strong enough to handle it and that there should be no problems, in limited use. Though they did say that springfield could not endorse shooting it for fear of being blamed if they were some freak accident. If you need it (for hunting I imagine), try it; it would be cheaper to replace the spring rather than replace the barrel.

here's a link to a thread with more views on the subject.
Has it been determined if this gun is .45 Super safe?

Kind of doubtful that the Xd was "designed for the .45 Super," as it's not likely that anybody in Croatia ever heard of a .45 Super. If my memory serves me correctly, at least one of the telephone answerers at Springfield didn't have a clue what .45 Super is, either.

I can't think of any practical application, other than hunting, for .45 Super.

It didn't mean designed for .45 super specifically, but designed strong enough to handle it in limited use.

Memcar: "as it's not likely that anybody in Croatia ever heard of a .45 Super"

Probably true, but I get the impression that for the .45 XDs at least, Springfield worked with HS Produkt from the start to develop and manufacture the weapon, so consideration for stronger handling American ammunition could certainly have been included in the design of the XD 45s. I don't know if .45 Super was considered, but I'm just saying...

I've fired some .45 Super and some .450SMC, and neither interests me. Your XD .45 will probably handle .45 Super o.k., but it's not going to be any fun to shoot, unless you're the kind of guy who just likes to "turn heads at the range."

Seems like it would make a fine deer hunting round if used sensibly.

That would be about the only practical application that comes to my feeble mind!
