mag clack

Hi - I just joined, here's why: Yesterday I went to three shops looking for an XD-45 compact. None of them had them, all of them were extremely vague as to when they might get one in, all of them were less than helpful when I asked if I could order one through them...one with my name on it, so to speak. I figured it was a lost cause at this time. Then I went to a fourth shop and the main guy behind the counter was more then glad to hear me out. He then told me to stand by while he called some distributors (right in front of me). The first one he called verified that they, in fact, had two. He asked for both of them, and after hanging up he smiled and told me to give him my info, said they would be in the next day (today...well yesterday now...), and that he would reserve one and call me. By noon today he had called me and confirmed that UPS had just delivered two XD-45c's and that one of them was sitting to the side just for me. I drove there, felt it up, bought it, and brought it home. I'm so impressed. And…it's my birthday today! Nice! They've captured my business forever. (In case anyone is interested, the shop in question is Firing Line in Aurora, CO.)

Ok, now here's my first concern regarding the 10rnd magazine only (the 13rnd mag is fine):

When, and only when, I fill the 10rnd mag with 10 rounds, there is something that sounds loose inside the base of the magazine and it clicks and clacks pretty loudly as I rock the gun back and fourth. It is definitely at the base of the mag and it only happens with a full mag. It's not a tiny little clacking - it sound like something rather large is loose and it clicks and clacks loudly. Enough so that with the gun loaded to full capacity (10 + 1) and set in a concealed holster, I can hear it as I bend and stand, etc.

I’ve taken the mag apart and reassembled it…the problem still exists.

Does anyone else have this issue? Again the 13rnd mag does not do this.

I will gladly deal with Springfield for a new mag unless I'm just being nit-picky and this is common or something. It wouldn't give me away or anything, during concealed carry, but I don't want a defective mag either!

Thanks guys!

I don't have any experience with the 10 round mag because I only have three 13 round mags and yes I have one that rattles alot but it still works fine.

That big rattle you hear is a .45 acp round (probably #7 looking in the hole)

It has been discussed here a few times. Mine does it too

Try a hitting the back of the mag sharply into the heal of your hand to seat the rounds.

Thanks for the replies.

rgeliske: I always seat my rounds in this manner - but this is something that is very loose and is not affected by the position of the rounds in the mag.

CharlieHo, Saggin: Thanks for the info. Eh. Do ALL 10rnd mags do this or just some? I guess it's not that big of a deal, but I hate that my nice new XD rattles like a spray paint can when I shake it.

Otherwise, this thing is brilliant. If it shoots anything like my cousin's XD40, I'm going to be a happy man.

Mine does that with both the 13 and the 10 round mags.

My XD9 does it as well with the high cap mags. Not nearly as frequently though.

In all cases, taking one round out, seating the rounds by tapping the mag into my palm, and then inserting the final round again clears it up.

When it comes back, I just do it all over again.

I've never had it fail to go away. I don't think it would have any effect on feeding, but I've never shot it when it sounded like a round was loose.

Thanks man - I was able to find the other threads about this issue. I'm totally embarrassed now, for starting another one. But, any concerns I had are now gone.

Ah well...so somebody congratulate me on my joining the XD family or something. Come on!
