Bar-sto match grade barrel...
Installed in my XD Compact .45 by Scott Springer. I wanted a little more accuracy than standard and Scott does absolutely fantastic work for a reasonable price with a terrific turn time.
Got mine back in less than a week. He had hand fitted the barrel. Accuracy improved a little - not as much as I had hoped, but it wasn't bad to start with. However, after around 900 rounds I went shooting yesterday and the weapon completely locked up tighter than a gnat's tuchas. Finally got it apart (not easy, I might add) to find the bottom lug had completely sheared off! Sheared off just below the bottom of the chamber. Guys at the range think they saw a stress crack where it had broken off. Called Scott and he said send it back; on its way via Fedex today. I'm sure he'll make it right, but dayum! He said this was the first problem he'd ever heard of with a Bar-sto. For what it's worth, the only ammunition this weapon has ever seen has been factory 230 grain WWB or lately, Blazer Brass, with Winchester Ranger RA45T used (feeding flawlessly) as a defensive round. Approx 2K rounds total. I'll keep everyone posted. Weapon should be in Scott's hands by 1030 tomorrow. Paul |

I am contemplating doing the exact same thing. I had scott trick out my 45 tac and now I'm up in the air between Barsto and Pistol Gears. I'm sure Barsto is better but who really knows, Scott I guess.

Wow, BarSto will make it right. FWIW, I have BarSto bbls. in (2) 1911s & a BHP. They are very accurate & not finicky w/ any ammo. Good luck w/ that.

Well, Scott came through once again. Talk about fantastic customer service!
I Fedex'd the pistol to him and he got it on a Friday. He had the barrel fitted and ready to go by Monday. I had asked him to test fire the pistol using my carry ammo (Ranger RA45T) just to make sure it would feed ok (fed fine with both the original barrel and the first Bar-Sto) and he looked all over Portland trying to find some. After a few days, I told him to blow that off and just send the pistol back. He went out of his way to get it to Fedex for overnight return. Shot it today; did over 200 rounds with both Blazer Brass and my carry ammo. Did have an issue with ftf using my original 10 round magazine that came with the pistol when new and using ball ammo. Switched to a different mag and no further problem. Called Springfield when I got home and they are replacing the magazine at no charge. Had to re-tweak the sights a little. Accuracy is very good. Rounds through the same hole at 7 yards and under 2" at 15 yards if I do my part, which I don't always do!! Scott said he was shipping the original Bar-sto back to them for examination. Told me that he cut a relief a little deeper (iirc it's on the top of the chamber, but I could be mistaken) and that this new relief was being done at the factory as well. Scott told me that this was the first time he'd ever had a problem with a Bar-sto and this was the first time I'd heard of a Bar-sto failure also. Have one in a Champion Mil-Spec 1911 project I did and you could pound nails with that thing. I'd be really interested to hear what Bar-sto determines as the cause of the failure. Let me tell you, I have Scott's trigger job on this pistol and everyone who has shot it has not wanted to give it back to me. Fantastic customer service and after the fact support. Wish more people were like him. I know there's another forum vendor with a great reputation but I gotta tell you - you won't go wrong with Springer Precision. Paul |

Can't imagine an XD application where a Bar-Sto (and they DO make excellent barrels) would make any difference. You gonna be shooting bullseye with that XD?

You are kidding...right? I have a fitted Bar-Sto match barrel in my XD9 Tactical which I shoot in IDPA and USPSA. The pistol is easily twice as accurate as it was with the stock barrel. Who wouldn't like that? Scott Springer did the work and I would definitely recommend him to anyone considering enhancing the performance of their XDs. He is an exceptionally talented gunsmith and a great guy.

No, I'm not kidding. Next time David Sevigny's shooting his stock Glock in a match, stand up and show him what that Bar-Sto will do! "Twice as accurate?" That's truly absurd.

Certainly you are entitled to your opinion. I assume, of course, that you have personally fired the Bar-Sto and aren't simply making "armchair quarterback" comments. Right after I take on Dave Sevigny I think I'll go up against Michael Jordan in a little one-on-one. What a lame analogy!

Not likely that you're going to agree, your having dropped serious coin on a superfluous barrel! Last edited by Mercmar; 08-17-2007 at 09:41 AM. |
