.45 Service grip chop?

I've made the decision that my XD45 needs a shorter grip. After ruminating over the best course of action (sell Service + buy Compact or grip-chop Service), I'm thinking I may just buy a couple shorty mags and spacers from Old School and bust out with the Dremel. I know a couple folks have converted other caliber XD's, but has anybody done a .45 yet? It seems simple enough if you take your time and pay attention, but I need validation that the grip angle wasn't slightly altered or there was some other manufacturing mod that would render what I'm going to do a really bad idea. Speak up, anyone with experience with this sort of thing.

I'd like to hear about this as well. I really wanted the XD45 Compact, but after waiting 7 months for my pistol permit I just couldn't stand waiting a few more months for the compact to come out. Now I'd like to have the shorter grip.

Dan - I like your signature (all three items).

It's the same grip angle. I'd go for it if I were you.

I was wondering if you were going to make an appearance. Anything I need to know before I start cutting?

I was wondering the same thing. But- you can send your 45 to bowie tactical and for 70 bucks- it will come back chopped as though it was done at the factory. Not butchered- like I think I would do. By the time I bought all the things to do it- I would come out better letting a pro do it.....

If they screw it up- then that = new gun.

...And "measure twice, cut once" and lots of sanding.

I have performed the same mod on my XD-45 service. I also have a XD-45 Tactical. By changing the slides I can esentially have a full size service, tactical, compact service, and a compact tactical.
The mod is easy to do, but take your time. I actually was anal, in that I cut my grip about 1/16 of an inch too long and sanded it back slowly to fit the mags. I have a tighter mag bottom to grip fit than the tactical does.
Do it, you will like it.
