So, I've been eye balling some fancy guns for my 1st .45
Was leaning towards a Springfield TRP or similar 1911. With a budget around $1300 (gun + mods) how nice can an XD 45 Tactical get? Thanks Dean |

Depends on what you plan to do with it? Competition? USPSA Production? USPSA Limited? Daily Carry? Range shooting? What is the "purpose" for this gun?

With $1300 I'd go for a 1911 base....Springfield, Kimber etc. The XD-45 is pretty nice, but imho...not in the same category as a 1911.

yes, BUT it all depends on what he intends on "doing" with his gun. If you plan on putting it in glass and mounting it above the fireplace, I'd say go Wilson Combat.... But the question is obviously what is the intended main purpose for this piece.

If for competition: for $1300 on XD45 Tactical - you can get alot of work by canyon creek custom or springer precision, including match grade barrel, Dawson sights, trigger, cleaned, tuned, the works. And probably have a few dollars left over to get Bladetech holsters, etc. and extra mags.
But +1 to Jeff221, you need to know what for. Problem with doing all that using XD45 for USPSA matches, is that will still put you in Production class shooting against low-recoil XD9 Tacs like me ; ) I guess maybe you can do L10 and add a Big magwell... On the other hand, I still don't shoot any of my XDs as well as my 1911s.

The XD's are combat weapons; they have combat triggers, combat sights and combat accuracy to say nothing about their appearance which is nothing to love.
You can find lots of guns that have better triggers, better sights and better accuracy and certainly much better looking guns, but most of them aren't combat weapons. My Gold Cup .45 is better looking, has a better trigger, better sights and is more accurate, but I would never carry it; it's not a combat weapon. The Wilson Combat? Well, I really like those a lot, but my BIG BUCK spending is on rifles, not pistols.
