I agree that the XD is one of the most reliable and user friendly handguns on the market. I purchased my XD-45 Compact 4" after researching several other manufactures and their products. For the money the XD line of pistols is the best. If I were going to move up in price I would definitely consider the SigArms P220 Combat TB.

I think user comfort is a huge factor that gets overlooked in gun vs. gun debates, because it's so subjective. The fact of the matter is that most modern firearms are very reliable and very capable of getting the job done. The question isn't so much how the gun performs when you're USING it, as it does when you carrying, holding, aiming, etc. A lot of people swear by the 1911 because it's the most comfortable gun they've ever held (prior to my XD, I was one of them - hell, I still am). Doesn't mean it's any better or worst a tool, but if they're happier carrying it, all the more power to them. However, as I mentioned before, the 1911 is one thing the XD is not, and that's pretty. |

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. To me, a tricked out XD is a beautiful thing. 1911's are uglier to me. ...and BTW- just because SWAT chooses 1911's, that makes them more reliable? Add up all of the XD's ever made and then take that same number of 1911's and compare. By far, the most malfunctions will be counted amongst the 1911's. Nothing to get uptight about- just a fact. I've also owned a number of 1911's. Every one of them let me down at one time or another. I watch this happen at IDPA matches all the time. Whenever there's a gun malfunction, it's almost always a 1911. My XD's run at 100% and it's pretty hard to argue with 13 rounds. To each their own though. Hey- this is an XD forum! If you wanna come on here and talk about how your 1911 is better, you'd better expect to get some back.

I just put another 300+rds through my HK 9mm.
You know. I think I may stay with 9mm. A jump to .45 just adds a lot per month in ammo costs. Even with ammoman. Looking at $189 for 1000rds vs $289 in .45 ACP. So I'm now leaning more towards a 9mm gun like a High Power or CZ SP-01 Custom hard chromed. This novak HP is very pretty... http://www.novaksights.com/novak_cus...ARD_CHROME_BHP Bit spendy though. I keep my eye open for really solid deals on XD's on gunbroker and all the gun forums. Hmm. But, at the same time- if I snag a really solid deal on a TRP or similar 1911 maybe I can fool myself into justifying the ammo cost. |
