Got my First XD!!!!
Hi All,
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the Great info on here!! I just got my first XD, I was originally going to get the 4” service until I looked at the 5" Tactical. It was over from the start I really like this gun it fits in my hand perfect! I will try to get some pictures later. I cant wait to take it to the range and test it out. I just really glad to be out of a state where I cant even touch a handgun with out a permit that takes a year to get (NY) and relocate to a state where I can actually go and buy a gun. I ordered 3 more mags a few min ago. My next question is about the Sights, I would like to get the TFO. But Is this something that I can install or does it need to be put on by a gunsmith? Any other suggestions on what I should do to further my enjoyment of this pistol?? Thanks Kris |

Welcome to the fam Kris, you're gonna love your new XD!
The TFO's should be installed by a competent gunsmith, as the XD's stock sights, are a bit tight from the factory. While you *can* install them yourself if you have the proper tools & know-how, you risk damaging both the sights and your slide, not to mention proper sight alignment is key. Take note also that not all Gunsmiths may install TFO' on XD's for this reason, as was the case where I had to call around (only 2 places out of 10 said they could do it) my area to find someone that would do it for the XD's. On the plus side, those TFO's are sweeeeet once they're installed, VERY QUICK target acquisition!!! Hope this helps! |

Gratz!
I also got an XD-45, but in Service dress. I think the XD might be one of the best autos on the market right now. The only thing I plan to change are the sights. Other then that she hits very accurately and feels very natural in my hand. |

Tell me son, what is the purpose for your new firearm?
Do you intend on carrying it? Do you intending on competing with it? Do you intend on shooting it at the range? Make up your damn mind son! Which is it! You asked about sights... I'll give you an answer... but won't bother till you answer me.. I'm asking the question here boy! Every decision is based on the one prior... p.s. beer is good

Welcome!
I too had to decide between the service and the tac. The service fit me better, but I'd not kick either one outta bed!
