frame size 45 vs 40?

Have been having trouble locating a good duty holster for my tactical 5" 45, enter Safariland. They cranked out a model 6280 for 5" and marked it 40/45 xd Tactical 5". My 45 is way too tight, more than a break in period. Does anyone know the frame width and or slide width for both versions 40 vs 45? My guess is there is a difference and enough to make this holster not be the right fit if Safariland used a 40 for a model.

There is a difference in size but I don't know the exact measurement. I've heard a few stories of 45's being incessantly tight in some holsters where it's said the 40 and 45 will work in the same holster.

I believe this problem has been reduced with more and more holster mfg's molding for the 45 specifically these days.

I believe the 9 and 40 are the same frame so I don't see why anything would be marked 40/45.

The slide is longer from front to back and the hood may be tight to fit over the rear of the slide. from side to side they should be the same.

The XD45 will work in a 9mm/40SW holster without a problem. You can help the breakin by getting some shoe stretch at the local drug store. Spray it on the inside and outside of the holster. Wrap your gun in a couple of baggies or any light plastic to protect the gun and add thickness. Shove the gun all the way in the holster and allow to sit over night. Keep doing this until you get a fit you like. Remember when the gun is on your belt you body changes the contour of the holster. I have one holster that is tight until I cinch my belt down then it's perfect.
