xd-45 Porting

Hello,
Me new here!! Just picked up a XD-45 Compact. Went to the range and ran 100 rounds thru it with no problems. Question is : Has anyony had their gun ported ? I had several guns done years ago by Mag-Na-Port and the do a nice job. Is there anyplace else that can do a similar job with good results?
Thanks,
Jeff

My standard question:

"What is your main purpose for this gun?"

It being compact I can only assume it's conceal carry, at which point I can I say I'd stay away from porting on CCW weapon.

Beyond that, I'm of no help...

I have a couple of things, why port it and would porting a .45 make enough difference to incure the costs?

I cant see it being hard to do, if you know someone with a machine shop or an EDM machine, they could so it fairly easily. Warranty be damned though.

basically what everyone else said. If its a range toy then fine. But they have no place in a defensive pistol. Aside from the much discussed issues about night vision disruption, issues with firing from retention,... they also weaken the gun and make the gun much more filthy. We actually don't allow them in our courses anymore. We had an XD 40 ported barrel fail. In high round count courses we have also noted a decline in reliabily over time as the inside of the slide becomes more and more filled with crap.

All that you can depend on from a 45 is that it will drill a .45 - .70 inch hole about 14 inches into someone. There will not be "energy dump", people will not fly backwards, and they will not necessarily fall as if they have been struck by lighting.

If you just gotta do it why not go with a Bar-Sto extended ported barrel and leave the slide alone?

I have always thought that porting was of little value in 45ACP due to the relatively low pressure.

My point exactly. Sometimes you just gotta do it even if it doesn't make good sense so why ruin the whole gun.

There's a guy in Sedona Arizona, Tim Sheehan of Goshen Industries, who showed me an XD with some awesome porting. He apparentlhy knows the guy who did it. The ports were on the sides of the slide, not out the top and were angled backwards slightly. Apparently having them on the side reduces the flash at the top of the gun where you are trying to sight. Have no idea how well it works, or if it is practical...not arguing that here....but I have to tell you it looked friggin' awesome!
