Thanks for the warm welcome.

The first things in order are:

To get two more standard 13 round magazines and two 10 round magazines for it. Since I live on the border of NV/CA I'll find myself carrying in California sometimes while hunting or fishing si I'll need the 10 round magazines. I contacted Springfield and they do indeed sell these types of items to the general consumer by calling but I'll see if I can get themsheaper through a dealer first.

I also want to look into some after market holsters. Anyone have comments on the Springfield holster that came with the pistol? Other suggestions?

I'm going to contact a local instructor to get the class I need for my CCW ASAP then apply for the permit.

I have 100 rounds of Winchester 230 gr. FMJ for the range this weekend and a couple boxes of Federal 230 gr. Hydro-Shok JHP for carry.

Thanks God Nevada makes all this somwhat easy

Welcome

A lot of things improve after about 500 rounds so while you're waiting to go to the range practice, dry fire, it won' hurt the gun and your trigger pull will smooth out. Holsters a lot of people like the CrossBreed Supertuck for an inside waist band holster http://www.crossbreedholsters.com/. The one you got from Springfield has very little value except maybe for IDPA. The mag holder seem to be very loose on most belts but the tension is adjustable. The mag loading aid works if you need it and the lock is pretty good. The brush can be used to clean the mags, it is useless as a bore brush. Pistol Gear is a great place to buy mags and other goodies they are cheaper than Springfield and usually are well stocked. http://www.pistolgear.com/

Thanks for the tips, rgeliske. The dry fire idea is a good one while not on the range. I'll check out the hoster links now.

First, welcome aboard. I'm fairly new also - but this a great place to ask questions.

I'm not a big fan of the XD Gear holster that came with the gun either. It probably has its uses - maybe for competition. I don't like OWB holsters for concealed carry. I've used it at the range some, and it seems to function well - but, since the muzzle is exposed it rubs on the little metal rivet-looking things on my blue jeans. So I always have these brass-colored scratch marks on my XD

I carry my P95 in a Milt Sparks Watch Six IWB holster. Its comfortable and stable. I can't wait to get one for my XD.

Good luck.

ps. You might want to pick up another box or so of ammo for your first trip - 100 rounds will be gone before you know it

Welcome to the forum.

Congrats on getting your first XD. I just bought my 4" Service as my very first handgun just about a month ago. I have about 50 rounds through it so far since that's all that time/money will allow at the moment. It fires great and seems more than plenty accurate and easy to shoot.

I just ordered a Blackhawk CQC Serpa 2 Holster from Optics Planet (Carbon Fiber Finish).

http://www.opticsplanet.net/blackhaw...-f-bbdbec.html

I'm not sure if they are a forum sponsor or not, so if you get one I suggest purchasing through the Forum's Sponsors. It also comes in Matte Black.

I have read nothing but good things about this holster if you are looking for OWB carry. It is called 'Close Quarters Concealed', yet me being the newbie I am, I believe it to be better/equally suited for Open Carry. Since I am a resident of the wonderful state of Wisconsin, that is our ONLY carry method. I plan to do some Open Carrying once I have all precautions in order. Wisconsin is a tough state to get away with any kind of carry legally, and without getting harassed. I have to set up my GPS unit with waypoints of every school property in the city so that I know when I'm within 1000'. Also need a lawyer on stand-by since NO ONE in WI open carries (Not in the bigger cities at least), and I'm sure there will be altercations with LEOs in some form or another.

Anyways, welcome to the Forum. I'm also a newbie so keep us posted on what you get for a holster/accessories and how they work out for you.

I'll post some open carry experiences when I go down that road.
