Congrats on your decision! I am glad to see more guns in more people's homes and you will enjoy shooting. Remember to practice often and then practice some more. I take my wife shooting at least once a month and we both have a great time even though all she shots is her 22 revolver. She has gotten braver lately and has shot my XD and 1911 and is starting to enjoy 38's.

Good choice - I don't think you could go wrong with either one. As I've mentioned on here before I have a Ruger P95 (9mm). After I got the XD45, was seriously considering getting rid of the Ruger, hoping to use the money to get a holster and night sights for the 45. I told myself I could always get a 22 later for cheaper plinking.
But now, I just can't bring myself to part with the Ruger. And personally, I prefer the DA/SA trigger. Maybe it would not be the best option for IPSA competition, but for carry - I don't trust safeties - at all. I have more confidence in a long pull DA trigger / hammer than I would in a SA striker system with a manual, trigger and grip safety and the internal safety (that prevents a drop from firing). I'm not knocking the XD here - I really like this gun too. Just my .02. |

Just a quick note to say that I'll quit posting here in this forum since I have at long last decided to go with Ruger instead. I just got home from purchasing a blue P345. I think I made a choice that will make both me and my wife happy. But, like so many other things in life, time will tell!

You will like the Ruger I have the same model P345PR and I really like it. I love my XD 45 Compact but would not feel any less prepared if I were carrying the Ruger concealed instead of my XD, I think the Ruger is a fine firearm. Good luck with it. One nice holster for it is the Don Hume model H721 open top, it is a belt holster that conceals very well and has a body shield that keeps the gun off the body. You can see it at donhume.com
GOOD LUCK

How do the Don Humes work for the XD45's? Or DeSantis?
I can't even get into my CCW class required for the permit until the end of August and I want a good belt holster for now. Leather I think. Thoughts?
