Cheap .45 ammo
Yesterday when I was looking at the XD45 pistols here and there around town, I also looked at .45 ammo in each of the stores that I visited. There was one brand (can't recall now what it was) that had aluminum casings and a disclaimer that they were not to be used in reloading after they were fired. They were very inexpensive. Are these something that should be avoided, or are they OK to use when target practicing? Thanks for any insight that you might care to offer...

From most reports here about aluminum and even steel cased ammo, it has been good enough to use as range ammo.
Wolf and Blazer both make cheap ammo in alloy and steel cases and many people here shoot them regularly at the range. |

Many thanks for the replies. I'll pick some of those up the next time I go to buy some ammo, and will see what I think of them at the range.

Our range does not allow a certian brand of aluminum cased ammo. A member had a bad experience with it, in a S&W .45 ACP relvover, out of a specific case lot, there was not enough of a powder charge to get the bullet out of the bbl. After much back & forth e-mail with the company, them denying any problem, our staff banned it from all use...

Good enough
It was probably CCI Blazer. I shot that in 9mm for several years almost exclusively because Academy was selling it for 3.99 / box. I'd be shooting it now in my 9 and my 45, except the only place around now where I can find the stuff, they want $1.50 more per box for the CCI Blazer (alum) than they want for Blazer Brass

You can still get Blazer Brass at Walmart here for $9.47 (in 45).[/quote]
Yer kiddin...Our's raised from 10.97 to 11.97 at the beginning of this month for the CCI Blazer Brass. Weeks ago one of the XD forum members posted that it would be raised so I stocked up and it's been 11.97 ever since. |
