Dry fire
I've been shooting for about a year now and always dry fire my xd's to de-cock them. My friend says i'm damaging the firing pin by doing so. Is this true or do any of you dry fire your xd's? Thanks.

Your friend is wrong.
Dry fire away...within reason.

On an XD, dry fire is OK. This is not true of all handguns, but you are fine with doing so with your XD.

Just a quick question here. Why do you need to decock your gun? Is it just a personal thing you prefer, or do you do it for safety? Not busting your balls here, just asking.

There is no other way to de-cock an XD. You have to pull the trigger. You even have to do it as part of the field strip process.

It's physically impossible to have a round chambered and the gun decocked. When you chamber a round, the striker is ready to rock, so it's no like it's an attempt at being safer. Since the XD isn't a double action you either have to just load up the magazine and then cycle a round or learn to live with one chambered.

If you are going to dry fire, use a snap cap, doing it to dissasemble the gun is fine. Some folks have NO idea how carried away some folks can get with dry fire

I always de cock my XD whenever I clean it and put it away. I like to take the pressure off the spring.
