Nothing wrong with that. Some folks will dry fire 2,000 times in a day. Springs get worn by cycles (compress and uncompress), so you are actually not really helping the spring, but I store all my guns with the ""hammer down" as matter of habit.

If I am practicing trigger squeeze, sighting, or anything that requires frequent trigger pulls (I am still relatively new to shooting) then I make sure to use snap-caps. But if I am just dry firing it to decock for storage, or for disassembly then I don't worry about it too much and just dry fire it that one time.

Honestly, if dry-firing can damage your weapon, it's time to get a different weapon.

During XD dryfire, the Striker smacks the Striker Retainer Pin.
There have been cases of the Pin deforming and coming loose after 1000s of reps. It's not a big deal and an easy fix, but I thought I'd mention it. I'll continue to dryfire...

Excessive dry firing will eventually damage something. The unknown quantity is how many dry firing cycles will it take to break something? I haven't heard of any dry firing problems with the XD, but that does not mean they haven't happened or will not.
