Anyone own a 5" tactical?

Newb here, just picked up an xd 45 compact (4") today! I was SO TORN between this one and the 5" tactical... they both felt like awesome weapons. Anyone owners out here care to chime in? Anyone have experience with both?

In the end I chose the 4" compact for its versatility, because there is NO WAY I could possibly use that tactical model for ccw... but WOW was the tactical a beautiful thing. I suppose the 5" compact would be a nice compromise but they must be hard to find, I've never seen one!

I guess I'm looking for some affirmation here... haha.
And hey... nobody said I couldn't some day own the tactical too!

first of all, welcome to the forum!

I own a tactical. I've played with the service model and the compact model. I don't see any disadvantages to either gun. Once I get my CCW, I plan to carry my tactical. It will require some "perfect holster" shopping, but it can be done.

I carry my 5inch tactical every day, and every where I go without any problems at all. Using the factory holster too boot...

I was very torn between a service model and the tactical. The used service model was $300 less than the tactical I was looking at. After holding both and testing how easy it is to stay on target with both of them, I was 100% happy with paying the extra $300 for the tactical.

OOooooooooh buyer's remorse.... buyer's remorse! I'm feelin it big time.
Luckily the sellers have a local shop within 20 minutes, maybe I'll take the compact in there before shooting it... see the tactical again (if they still have one in stock)... Wish I could shoot both of them and then decide. I have never sold or traded in any of my guns... would it be a bad idea to shoot it first? How much would that depreciate the value? Would I be better off taking it back in unfired so that they can resell "new/unfired"? I'm still undecided, obviously.

I've owned a slim S&W 9mm semi for over 10 years which has always been my carry weapon. Countless rounds through it and never one jam, FTF, FTE, etc. Reliable, easily concealed... I know it's "only" a 9mm but it's accurate and powerful enough for any random encounter that might occur when out and about (imho). This is to say I don't pan on using the XD excusively as a concealed weapon.. I still plan on carrying the 9mm too.

For those of you who conceled-carry the 5" tactical, how do you rig it? I'm 6'0, 195, not "slim" but not heavy either. I can't imagine how to hide that thing in jeans and a tshirt lol. Under a jacket, sure. But how do you do it otherwise?

And thanks for the warm welcome!

You're the exact same build I am.

(I'm a righty) but I wear it on my left hip with the factory holster with a non-tucked in over shirt

Very very easy to get to and comfortable when sitting, and depending on how lose the shirt is, you shouldn't get a print.

Excellent, so carrying in a cross-draw (I'm a righty also) is do-able. That's it, I'm going for the tactical, should have done it this afternoon.

By the way I saw you have a Saiga 12 listed in your sig, how do you like it (like I have to ask)? I have been thinking about picking one of those up too, though the 19" models are hard to find now. I have a Mossberg 590 so the Saiga isn't really a NEED so much as... Well i think it would be lots of fun to shoot.
