13rd mag tight insertion and extraction into reciever
I received my 4" 45acp xd in March and have put 300 to 400 rounds through it and LOVE IT. Recently I have noticed that the mags are not sliding in and out as easily as they used to. I thought it was residue, but field stripped and cleaned it to find it near spotless. I was looking for rub marks on the mag, no sign. After a very through inspection of the magazine I found that there was a dimple that had been worked into rear of the magazine right where the round to be loaded sits. This dimple was pushed out by carefully using needle nose pliers and the mags feed like they were new again. Has anyone else had this problem? What can I do to make it not happen again? Thanks guys.

Any bullet that has a step in the exposed bullet (or case) profile can cause the rim of the case being extracted to push to the rear the next round at the top of the magazine. The gun can and will deform the magazine just as you describe. |

Para, that is exactly it. I found out the hard way that SWC's and the XD do not work together when I started hand loading in May with some SWC's that my grandpa had cast and lubed a while back.
I want to handload some more this summer with fmj's that I am going to purchase online, will these handloads make the same dimple, because you said "OR handloads"? Can anyone suggest a good round nose 45 cast that I can use for reloads? |

The last 3/4" of insertion and the first 3/4" on extraction were tight to the point that the mag would not fall all the way out of the mag well with gravity alone.

Check the back of the mag at the mag lips. You'll see a bit of a dimple there. Take a pair of needle nose pliers & gentley squeeze it back to shape. Now stop shooting LSWC as I have & you should be fine.
