Urges
You sound pretty knowledgeable about your pistols.
You have limited your choice to a handful. (At any given moment there are about 12 pistols or rifles I wouldn't mind trying or buying - the wallet holds me back.) I research the heck out of any purchase. It is a fever before hand. Point/CounterPoint every feature. I love my XD-45 but I love some features and others make me wary. (I'm a Double Action CrunchTicker Manual Safety 9mm'er at heart and the Single Action Polymer is new to me.) The XD could do one more manual safety to me in the 1911 vein IMHO but ... the XD is still a favorite gun to me. You sound like you have many XD's already and you might have "Wunderlust" for something new - nothing wrong with that. Try out the Smithy and Wesson if you want a new flavor. (Does that one have a magazine disconnect safety? That is the safety I could do without if it has one. I don't like it and feel a Mag Discon Safety is one that can render a firearm inhert at a bad moment due to mechanical failure.) I think in your heart of hearts you know what you want already. Thumb safeties are great to me unless you want something with less and less stabilities (great in some arms and fighter planes). I think you are in a win win choice. Go with your gut feeling. |

This will not help but here goes anyway

I still do not understand why the XD is reported to have a poor trigger. After trying everything in town, the only thing I noticed was long travel and reset but it broke better than anything but $800 and up 1911's and a Walther. So its a XD C 45ACP for me. I really want to get something other than another XD but I can honestly say nothing feels as good in my hands, even a $2000 1911 minus the trigger of course. I might get a Walther it I could get it in a 45ACP. And in a crisis, I want simple like the XD.

XDAlaskan:
What you said was important to me XDALASKAN. Your response to my question is the honest experience you have had; that is what I am wanting to hear from everyone out there. Tonight I got all my pistols out of the safe (car, under the bed, etc.). I have 10 pistols (not counting rifles and carbines). I held the M&P 40 and held my Xd 9mm 4" service model and held the XD SC in 40. The feel of the grip is definitely different on the XD and the M&P pistols, but each feels good (as compared to all other pistols). I passed on going after the XD in stainless; so the store may not still honor the price they offered to me. The Stainless in 9mm and 40 was on sale for $439 or $449 (can't remember exactly) and the black 45 acp 4" XD was on sale for about $449. The stainless 4" in 45 acp was not on sale. But, I got them to say they'd let me have it for $479.99. But, as I said that was on Sunday. They are closed on Monday and I didn't follow through and call them today to see if they'd still honor that price. But, this time of year seems to be slow for them, so maybe they will still have it. The M&P in 45 ACP with the manual safety was NOT on sale and was over $500. I think I prefer the loaded chamber indicator and grip safety on the XD over the M&P. Thanks for your input. |

Staying with the XD.

Thanks, I agree with your comments and will most likely take that advice and stick with the XD, which I know so well. |
