Streamlight TRL-1

I just got back from the range with my XD45. I broke down and went out and got the Streamlight TRL-1 last night. I was testing it in my room and it really puts out a nice light. I mounted it today and as you can see cut out the foam in the box to store it. I need to straighten up the edges on my cut but not too bad for now.
Rounds fired today: 150
Total rounds fired : 450
# of ammo manufactures used: 3
Malfuntions: 0
Here's the pics

My make shift foam cutting

All set (I also got a new backpack last week)

Art wanna be shot!

I hope everyone is out having a fun weekend at the ranges as well!

Oh BTW I didn't notice much difference firing with the light attached. I also started shooting for the first time with my off hand and found I'm just as accurate, which isn't saying much but nice to know!

Also the reason for the light is this is my home defense weapon I swear I didn't buy it just to look cool! (Although I think it does look pretty sweet!)

It does look sweet! I have the tactical, and am thinking about the same thing.

Just remember, with a gun mounted light, you are pointing the light the same place the gun is pointing. In home defense, this can be bad, as you need to point the gun at things you will not want to shoot to identify them, which violates one of the gun safety rules (do not point a gun at anything you do not want to destroy, and this means stuff on the TV, too!). For home defense, always have a separate light for just looking around. Besides, you can throw a light that is not mounted on your weapon into a room so you can see without exposing your exact location, a tactical advantage for residence clearing (which should not be done alone in the first place, unless absolutely necessary).

Looks good! - but that range is nowhere near Arlington Virginia! More out in my neck of the high desert/woods.
What brand of backpack? I am looking for a good one like that.

While not shining your attached light on someone may be ideal (and some range mentality as opposed to combat thinking is in evidence here) - even LE use the tac lights on the rail nowadays so I guess that if someone is wandering around your house at O'dark thirty they had better plan on having a pistol with a very large hole in the barrel pointed at them!

While that's a nice thought, just keeping your finger off the trigger and being some what responsible with it is also good.

Chances are if you have a gun drawn with a light, there's a good reason for it, and for the sake of staying alive, there has to be compromises.

Thanks for the advice, you never can be too careful when it comes to gun safety. Two things though. One the light is spread out and bright enough to see large portions of the room without aiming directly at something and two as mentioned anyone wandering into my apartment in the middle of the night when I am the only one who lives there should expect a gun pointed at them.

And yeah Pete you're right! This is the range on Ft. Huachuca, AZ. I'm out here for some training.

The flip side to that is when you have your pistol drawn, you should not be looking anywhere that your pistol isn't pointing. Proper fire discepline is needed. A light on his pistol might have kept that off duty LEO from shooting his miscreant daughter in the middle of the night a couple weeks ago.
