We just got a couple in at my store (one bi-tone, one standard) and I'm giving serious consideration to the black one. The tag reads $547. I'm just wondering if our price is out of line, since I only paid $485 for my XD40 a few months ago. I know the Tacticals command a little premium, but this seems like a heck of a jump. I'm looking for a new toy for shooting with a local group that shoots a falling plate match every month.
I'm also considering a plain Jane XD45 ($18 less, so price really isn't a deciding factor) so it can do double duty as a carry piece. Are there any major advantages I'm overlooking (Tactical over the Service) other than the longer sight radius and the added weight to help mitigate recoil? Thanks in advance for the feedback, folks!

Probably a little out of line, but you have to consider demographics and geographics along with the economic price point of your area. In Phoenix, I can pick up an SC for $460 and the XD line tops out at about $520 now that they are keeping the XD45 on the shelf.
Edit: Unless I want to pay more. There are places that are way out $$$, but I don't shop them.

The price seems pretty avg. As far as which model I personally like the service batter. I shoot the same with either one and the lesser slide mass of the service seems(to me) to have a little less recoil. Not that it's any kind of big difference. I had to shoot them side by side to realize it. I think that a tactical would be great for droppin plates. I also agree with you on the black finnish. If at all possible(if you want to carry it as a ccw piece) you would be better served by either the service or tactical compacts.

Thankee, fellas! My thinking was running along the same lines, but it's always nice to hear some other opinions to help reinforce your own.
Have a good 'un.

That seems about like the going rate. I see the .45 tacticals for $550 and sometimes a little more. Of all three of my XD's, I shoot the Tactical .45 the best hands down. I have been tempted to carry my .45 standard, but I shoot the tactical so much better that I tend to stick with it.

I paid $539 plus fees. tax, yada, yada. You'll end up paying less in Wyo. even at that price. Great pistol BTW.

Here in Lincoln, NE you'll pay about $549 for any NIB XD, and I think they are asking $579 for tacticals.
