xd45c vs. xd45
I'm going to buy one or the other in the next week or so. Any thoughts and or opinions. It will be primarily for home defense but I might carry it when I'm in MO or another state that allows me to with my FL permit. Unfortunately I'm stuck in IL with all the gun haters.
I usually carry a glock 27 when I can, but really want to step up to an xd45. I'm just not sure if I want to go with the compact or the regular 4" service. Comments are greatly appreciated for a soon to be xd guy. |

Welcome to the forum. I own the XD45 Service model and will get a 45 Compact as funds become available. I have shot both models and my recommendation would be to get the compact model if you have plans to CCW with it. I had no problems with the 10 round or 13 round magazines. There is a Tactical Compact also, but I myself prefer to carry IWB and do not like the 5 inch guns IWB.
My 2 cents. |

I own the compact (my wife has commandeered it for her concealed carry), and I can't say enough good things about it. The service and the compact are both good guns, I just think the versatility of the compact makes it a better buy if you plan on concealed carry.

I owned the XD45c, here's the deal...
Your XD45c IS the XD45 Service w/ the XD Extensions on the magazine... You can always make your compact service... It's a lot of work to turn your service compact (though, it is doable). ~Jeff

It would seem to me that you would be better served by the Compact. The performance between the two should be identical. The compact would be a little easier to deal with for concealment purposes. I personally have the Service model and carry it every day. Since I got it I realize I should have got the compact(and plan to eventually). I don't have any real bad issues concealing my service but the compact would make it an easier and more pleasant experience. By the way I've been carrying for over 15 years and have carried over 30 different handguns( i owned several at one time and my trainers for my job at the time wanted me to be familiar with many different handguns and long guns from all over the world). The XD.45 is in my top three now(Light weight 1911 comander.45 being right there with it and also the CZ75 compact 9MM).

Get the Compact, it's the best of both with either the 13rnd full size mag for home defense or the 10rnd mag for carry.

Are you guys having any trouble getting the compact? I ended up getting the service because at the local gun store they claimed they couldn't get a compact.

Haven't seen ANY compacts at my local stores or gunshow (though I missed the show a few weeks ago). Not surprising. I've bought 4 XDs in the last 1.5yrs, all from out of state dealers (budsgunshop.com or whittakerguns.com), on gunbroker, or this forum.
