My XD 45ACP Tactical 13-round mags rattle a little but the gun is 100%.

Technically, it's a pistol, not a gun.
Thus, my post is self-mocking, I WIN!

i put a bit of rem oil in my magazines and went to clean them last night after a trip to the range and just like you said, the spring was pretty caked.

no problems with feeding though.

i usually just shoot my 10 round magazine, i just like how the shorter, compact mag feels better than the 13 rounder with the extension. i've yet to experience a failure of any type whatsoever, which has really impressed me about the xd. we always hear about guns that have a break in period where failures aren't necessarily expected, but acceptable.

I've had that happen a few times while shooting my Dad's Edge... Normally I can just remove the mag and give it a little shake and it stops. Atleast in those mags I think it just seated weird and the small shake seats it for you.

Can't tell you about XD's tho as mine won't be here for a day or two.

My compact 45 mags rattle as well. Annoying but functional. Sometimes if I take the mag and tap them pretty hard the rattling will stop. Everything else is perfect

I have done the same. It seems to quiet the rattle when you "seat" them with a tap or twelve against your hand when loaded.

My magazines rattle once in a while right after I put the 13th round in my XD45. I pop out the last round, give the mag a good smack on its but plate and insert 13th round back in. This always works for me and something to try next time.

I have a 9mm Ruger that does that, but it shoots and feeds just fine
