I've shot my XD45 service over 1,000, hate to say now that you got me worried, never had a problem with my rod. I have been waiting for Don's guide rod for the 4" to come out and still waiting. Good luck my friend gope things work out.

If your spring keeps your slide in battery and the brass flings about normal, you spring is fine. If you spring is fatiguing you would see the slide failing to stay in battery and the brass flinging to the next county, other than that don't worry about it!

Replacing a recoil spring every 3000 rounds might be a good idea, but replacing the guide rod that often would indeed be absurd. Let me echo what Don said though. If the gun is functioning normally, relax and don't sweat it.

Isn't the spring and guide rod one unit on the XD?

Yes it is. My post was misleading. It's true you'd also have to buy the guide rod along with the spring. However, if the gun's working, I still wouldn't worry about it.

If springs (in general) operate in the right "zone" they can go millions of cycles (for instance the valve springs in your car). Many of the members with the 9mm/.40 factory springs are over 10K rounds. This says that the dual spring design has a good fatigue life for those models, and probably have a similar design life in the .45ACP. I can't speak from experience but I would expect a long life myself from the factory spring.
I play around with designs for different springs, but that is not because the factory spring is not a good choice, but because some may prefer a different recoil for a specific application. Alas I have nothing for the .45ACP Service, so the factory is what we have to work with, but it feels pretty good as is. |

I know I could just go to their website, but does anybody know if Wolff makes a non-captive guide rod for XDs? I use their rods and springs in my Glocks and never have any spring/guide-rod related failures.
