It's not about the kick really. The xd's polymer kinda feels like it wants to "flip" away from you. A good 1911 that has a well matched mainspring vs. recoil spring just kinda "sits" after each shot instead of "kicks" or flips. The hammer has a BIG role to play in timing your recoil back into battery. As it cocks the hammer it dampens the recoil. the polymer tends to feel like it's gonna get away from you. Hard to explain till you've shot both back to back ALOT. It's like comparing a wooden bat to an aluminum one. the feel is just different. Which one would I want if all hell broke loose? I'd take my SA xd 45c over my SA UC just for the fact that I can shove a 14 rd mag in there if I have too, plus it is a damn good shooter too. Which one would I take to the ball or a wedding? Well, the SS loaded UC wins that hands down.

On the left, 4" XD ACP. On the right, Springfield TRP.

I like both of these handguns and enjoy shooting them but I do not take both to the range at the same time.

I spent 20 years in the military and shot a lot of rounds through a 1911. When I retired, I didn't want anything to do with one. After several years, I bought the XD. Loved it. Put over 3K rounds through it without a problem.

Then I bought the TRP.

The XD is a fine handgun, it is fun to shoot and serves it's purpose.

The TRP is awesome. It even makes me look like a good shot.

JBIV said it best, it's like comparing an aluminum bat to a wooden one. You have to shoot both to appreciate them.

The answer is yes. After I'd already purchased 2 XD45's and an XD40SC, I then purhcased the RIA 1911, and the Taurus PT-1911.

The XD-45 is still my all around favorite handgun.

Had my 45 Compact and carried daily for a week now and shot it first time today. Have carried an officers on and off for 10+ years.

No way I'd get a 1911 for ccw after carrying the XD. I'd get a 1911 for other reasons though...

Of course! They are totally different firearms. I own both and enjoy shooting both.

Get all the guns you can, they hold their value better than jewelry and they are a lot more fun to practice with.

I have 3 guns on my must have list for "historical reasons":
Hi-Power (I cheated and bought a .40SW)
1911 .45ACP (I have one in 10mm too)
Single action cowboy revolver in .45 Colt (Still waiting on this one)

There is something very pure & simple about the operation of a 1911. The Hi-Power has been over looked by most Americans because it was primarily used as a service weapon in other countries that liked the 9mm cartridge. As for the .45 Colt revolver, well I am a Texan and I just want one.

I have a number of guns for various reasons. I got my XD to begin a little "future gun" project.
