I'm a huge XD fan, but I just picked up my first 1911 - an STI Duty One. Still in the break-in phase w/ it - only has 350 rounds through it so far. Am experiencing some failure to feed, but hopefully that gets worked out soon.

Yes I would. I have a XD 40SC, and just picked up a XD 45 Compact on friday. On fathers day I received a Ruger P345PR .45 cal but I am looking forward to adding one or more 1911's to the collection. I say one or more because once you have one you must have more.Seems that way for me anyway. OH in case your wondering the Ruger performs just excellent and won't get to the range for some time with the XD 45 Compact

would you get a1911 if you already have a XD 45
I would like to eventualy pick-up a taurus PT-1911, they are not to expensive and i have heard great things about them except they apparently have a thin finish to them. Before I would spend really big bucks on a 1911 though I would first research buying an assault rifle first, I don't have one of them yet

Personally, I want to own at least 3 of every good brand of firearm made. Having an XD-45 (and promoting it to my CCW) will not effect my future decisions to buy any firearm. If I don't use a firearm for CCW, then it has a good life in my safe.

I recently purchased a Dan Wesson Pointman Major 7 1911, & absolutely love how it feels & shoots. The trigger on a 1911 is in a class all it's own compared to other guns. I carry my XD45 at work and occasionally off-duty, but I love the feel of the 1911 in my slide holster. I know there is the belief that the 1911 is slimmer than most other guns, but I read an article when the XD first came out that stated the 1911 is actually fatter in the grip area than an XD because of the wood grips compared to the polymer grip on the XD....I'll have to use my reloading calipers & test that statement.....I'd love to get a SA Mil-Spec 1911 next.

Ok, I just checked the width between my DW 1911 & my XD45. Are ya ready?? Both grips measured exactly 1.240" The width of the slide on the 1911 is only .910" while the XD is 1.110" So there is a about a 100 thousands of an inch difference in the slide, which is noticable, but the grip width is exactly the same. I wonder if other 1911 models measure the same in the grips or maybe thinner?
