I've always wanted a 1911 just for nostalgia, looks, and the coolness factor. With that said, they are way over priced for what they are. But I guess it really depends on why you want/need.

If it is for carry, there are better, smaller, more concealable, more reliable, less finicky, less costly choices. If it is for range time, there are more reliable, less finicky, less costly choices. If it is for competition, there are more reliable, less finicky, less costly choices. I'm sure I missed something in there but ...........................

If it is for coolness, there is no better choice.
There overpriced, but they do look cool

So for me it is all about price versus coolness factor. If the price is right, I'll eventually own one. But unless I win the lottery, it will not be a Wilson or any other overpriced, cause it has a name on it, 1911.

Let the flaming begin.

Not all 1911 hold just 7 or 8 rounds. I have a Springfield 1911 that holds as many rounds as my XD. It is a double stack. There are other manufacturers that make DS models of the 1911 platform. They are just not as popular as the single stack.

But to answer your question. Yes. I have 3 single stack 1911 and my double stack. 4 in all.
The 1911 is a wonderful design and has proven itself for almost 100 years, the platform was actually first designed by Mr Browning I think in the 1909 time frame and was produced by Colt in that same year, 1909. It was adopted by the US army in 1911 which is where it gets its designation as the 1911.

I think my dates are correct but if not feel free to correct me.

You can get brand new RIA or Armscor 1911 for 3 or 4 hundred, or you can pick up some used Springfield 1911 in great shape for about 400.00
You don't have to buy new to get quality. There are a few other manufacturers that are in the 400.00 range for new 1911, you just need to look.

I think 1911's are more accurate then XD's. So yes, I would get one to shoot at the range only.

I've been a 1911 guy for many years now. I just recently bought an XDTAc, great pistol, but the 1911 still rules the roost for accuracy/shootablility. Nothing points like a 1911 for me & I doubt you can ever find a better combat trigger than the 1911. Mine are as reliable as the vaunted Glock, just feed them from good mags & try not to mess with them too much (customizing).
In a SD situation, you are probably way over your head if you need more than 8rds+ a reload (one should always carry a spare mag) IMO.
