First impressions

Finally, after waiting 4mos., I got my XDTac. I gathered up a bunch of factory & handloads & went off to the range. I fired a little over 100rds of various ammo, JHP, Ranier, & cast bullet handloads. The only functioning problem was the occasional FT feed of the 200grLSWC (I heard the stories, but had to try for myself). Everything else fed flawlessly. Accuracy w/ all loads was 1 1/2" (200grLSWC) best & 3" worst (old 230gr HydraShoks) w/ most going 2"-2 1/4" for 5 shots @ 15yds handheld. I new I was going to like just from handling but this pistol is a shooter. The trigger was better than a Glock IMO, obviously not as good as my 1911, but I expect it will only get better & I'll get used to it. Some double tap drills found me pushing the trigger a bit & hitting left, but after a few runs I was getting nice centered pairs.
Here are some chronograph results:
Hornady 200gr XTP - 921fps
Fed. 230gr HydShk(old) 802fps
Rem. 230gr GS - 875fps
230gr RanierRN/6gr Unique/wwsp/1.260" - 858fps
239gr Win.JHP/6.5gr Unqiue/wwlp/1.250" - 881fps
Rem. 185grJHP - 935fps
Win. 185grSTHP (old) - 933fps
Fed, 185gr+p Hyd.Shk - 1105fps
185gr GS/8.1gr Unique/wwlp/1.180" - 1063fps
185gr XTP/8.1gr Unqiue/wwlp/1.180" - 1121fps
My final test was to load a full mag of random rounds & fire as fast as I could, no malfunctions of any kind. I'm hooked, I may have to retire my 1911.

Not to step on your post but I want to reiterate what you said in yours.
3 weeks ago I bought my first Kimber and immediately fell in love. Last Friday I bought my first XD45 service and I know I am going to draw some heat here, but the XD shot just as good, felt as good if not better and I was a bit more accuarate with it. Not a single hiccup shooting winchester and my reloads. I have fallen in love all over again.. if it is possible to experience it twice in the same month. Needless to say my Kimber stays in the safe and the XD has a special place by the bed.
My satisfaction is unbelievable makes me wish I would have picked up the XD first as I would have more allowance for a Tactical in 9mm. Anyway, gives me something to save my allowance for now.

Not at all msg. I've shot many, many diff. pistols over the years, HKP7, P226, blah, blah, blah. Most have left me w/ an impression of "nice, maybe I'll buy one". I was just realy impressed how easy the XDTac is to shoot right out of the box. The trigger is not nearly as bad as some guys say (maybe I got lucky) & the ergonomics remind me of a grown up BHP, perfect. I'll still have that love afair w/ my 1911s but I could be caught cheating abit w/ this XD.

What the heck is it about the XD that makes everyone go crazy over it? It seriously changed the way I saw handguns forever! I was planning to buy some different handguns as I grow my collection but I seriously understand now why some people have 4+ XD's instead!

i guess this is why it was awarded a handgun of the year award and has been labeled as the most talked about handgun.

i really like my XD45 compact 4" but i do really want a 5" government 1911.

Hmmmm well I have more than one XD but I still can apprecaite the beauty and appeal of other firearms.....I do, however, find myself constanly comparing them to the preformance and reliability of the XD models and some do have issues when this critical evalaution is applied with the XD as a base line.......

I had no intentions of owning a semiauto handgun until I fired the XD. I had fired semiauto handguns before and just did not like the feel/grip of any of them. (I had never fired a 1911). I shot a XD45 and had to have one.

have you since fired a 1911? some don't like them, most people do.

i put 113 rnds thru my new tactical model yesterday--not a stutter
it wasn't a life-changing experience, or anything but its a damn fine gun!
i wasn't trying to be very accurate with it but i did notice that it has a quality i like in my beretta 92fs; the less i "tried" to be really accurate with it--the more accurate it seemed to be, but i think a lot of "combat" handguns are that way, my glock 19 has a bit of that quality, while my 1911 has less of it and seems to want to be aimed a little more
well, my xd with a streamlight tlr2 light/laser has taken the nightstand spot previously occupied by my beretta (the beretta has a place of respect in my safe, waiting to burn thru a 500 rnd monday morning at a moment's notice)
one thing the xd has done that no other 45 i've ever owned could do is make me start looking into a reloading setup to stuff my own ammo, 25 bucks per hundred will get old quick

sounds like it was fun to say the least.

i hear you on this one. after helping the wife decide what she wants to get for herself, and possibly picking up a smaller framed 9mm for easier summer concealment, reloading is definitely up there on my list of things to get.
