XD 45 compact
I have a XD9sc and was thinking of getting the .45 compact but I have a question.
Other that different calibers and over all size, will the Pistols shoot alot different from each other. Will I be spending $$ on another gun that is "like" the one I already have" Thanks.

re: 45 compact
I recently bought an XD 45 Compact 4" aft shooting a SA 1911 for one year trying out the USPSA probationary 1911 single stack class (b/c I hated the glock advantage back in 1999 when I shot 9mm beretta/steyr and wanted to shoot in an 'even' class)...anyway, I loved it (.45XDC) and then the next month a fella opened back up his monthly indoor shooting tac matches and i said, "HEY, i can go back to the 9mm and get an XD in 9mm tac to 'ping' and 'hose' and have FUN and 'carry' my .45 compact! Well, i can out shoot my 9mm tac XD with my .45C and even began to wonder if the spring setup isn't better on the .45C than the 5" tac? But the jury is still out b/c i haven't gotten but a few hundred rounds in each. You will not really tell much diff in the two and i'd recommend getting you both (i prefer .45 over .40 and don't understand why someone woudl get a .40 over a .45?). All this said is, given you've shooten thousands of rounds! I would not start counting bullets until you hit a thousand personally - for me. It took thousands before I became anywhere consistent! (I stopped shooting tac aft 9-11 b/c of not being able to risk bringing my gun 'on base' once a month for a tac match aft work...but started again in 2006 on the weekends w/the 1911 and it is not aft work...if anyone cares or wondered. I'll just park off base w/my XD9 b/c i 'think' i can run w/those glock AHs now...jokingly i say glock AHs..the fella w/the indoor range was a glock fanatic/maniac and always said, "get a glock" - that's why i didn't, my beretta's (9mm, .40, yes i did have a .40, but now prefer a .45) anyway, the beretta's never failed, my steyr did - a lot!).
[my lot again are: both XDs .45C, 9mmtac; 92F, 96F berettas, SW1076 FBI 10mm Deer carry gun; SA 1911 w/dawson/bomar sights; SW 38spl airweight/light? hadn't carried it shot it in yrs] |

Two things to keep in mind:
1) 9mm is COMPLETELY different than 45ACP when it comes to recoil... 2) 9mm is a smaller frame then 45ACP. The grip is different. I shoot my .40SW BULLSEYE.... I Shot my .45ACP all over the place.. Bench the gun, dead on, in my hand, all over... I narrowed it down to the frame size. Find a range w/ a rental. Fire up a couple magazines and see how it runs in your hand.

polaris, where are you located? see if you can find some other members that are relatively close to where you live and see if you can meet someone/some people at a range and try things out. people here are pretty helpful and typically are prone to exercising the phrase "friends help friends buy more guns."

I have 3 XD's- XD 45 compact, XD 9 service, and XD 40 ported service. I carry the XD 45 compact and purchased the XD 9 for practice (much cheaper ammo). They all shoot pretty much the same. Sure, the 9 recoils less and the grip is just a little (very little) thinner. They all have the same sights, grip angle, and same trigger. This means that they all essentially shoot the same, because those are the most important factors for consistancy. They all shoot to point of aim dead center and are completely reliable- no malfunctions in any of them (probably about 7,500 rounds between the 3). I personally like the compact over the subcompact because of the grip size. I can just fit my hand on the compact, but my pinky hangs over on the subcompact, which is why I don't own one. Good luck on your decision.

You need the XD in 45.This is a great pistol! I hate glocks now after owning an XD45 ACP 4" pistol.

I had trouble adjusting to the 45C and 9 service from my 40SC. After more time with the 45 and 9 the triggers have broken in and they are feeling much more alike.
Once you break it in, you will love the compact. IMO.
