Firing pin assembly cleaning

Hey all, I'm new to handguns and the XD. I tried a search but didn't find what I was looking for. Where can I go to get instructions for the disassembly of the firing pin area for lack of the technical term. How often does this need to be cleaned. I'm so used to the rigors of cleaning an AR-15 that I feel like cleaning the XD is too easy without breaking it all the way down.

Look on the back of the slide... There is a black ring.. Push that in, and pull the metal plate on the back of the slide up.. The firing pin assembly will pull out the back.. There is a small metal pin that then holds the firing pin block.. Pull that out and the block and spring will fall out..

I clean mine everytime I shoot it..

I just squirt some solvent in there and scrub with a tooth-brush, then I use an air-can keyboard duster to blow out the excess and finish up with a little oil.
Hasn't failed me yet.

I honestly dont think it NEEDS to be cleaned except every few thousand rounds, or it gives problems.. I just enjoy cleaning my guns..

It really is easy after you have done it once..

One trick I use.. When reassembling, push all of the firing pin components in the slide, and hold with a screwdriver while you insert the plate back in..

That is a good link.. Its actually where I learned to disassemble mine...
