In .45ACP the 230 grain Golden Sabers fell w/in the recommended penetration (12-18 inches) for both the clothed and bare gelatin. They also expanded well and made the biggest wound volume (6.28 & 6.91 avg for each test).
While most modern ammo in 45 was acceptable, & the Fed HS and Speer GDs did great, the Golden Saber faired the best in most areas. I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried them in their XD's.
I ran 20 each of the 18gr & 230grGS throuigh my Tac last week. They fed flawlessly & accurracy was very good, right at 2" @ 15yds handheld. They expand well in wetpack, I like them.

I'm not sure I understand the idea of loading one mag of HPs and one mag of FMJs for use in cold weather. If a hollowpoint plugs up, it performs like ball ammo. Shooting at a heavily clad bad guy, your hollow points may not work perfectly (although DPX seems to be pretty good). Some may expand, some my plug up and perform like ball ammo. By carrying ball ammo, you give up any chance at expansion and gain nothing in return.

Mixed loading a shotgun never made much sense to me either, but that is a different post.

I don't list my guns - I know glocks, FALs, and AKs but I'm not sure my ability to fill a gunsafe with guns make me an expert on anything.

All that you can depend on from a 45 is that it will drill a .45 - .70 inch hole about 14 inches into someone. There will not be "energy dump", people will not fly backwards, and they will not necessarily fall as if they have been struck by lighting.

230g HP CCW/HD and 230g FMJ in the woods. I always have 2 mags of each loaded. I just switch them depending on my location. No certain brand that I stick with exclusively.

The one thing I do is always practice with the same grain bullet as the one I'm carrying.

I guess I'm a bit of a liberal, I only chamber 00 3 inch magnums...

The XD, with 14 JHP HydraShox 230-gr .45ACP rounds, is backup...

Cheers! M2

what do you consider frigid weather where you'd carry FMJs?
This is the first post that makes the most sense to me. Shot placement is the most important element. A Remington STD velocity 230 gr hollowpoint and a high velocity 185 gr HP will both take someone out if placed properly.
