trigger kit installed...but there is a problem
I got the kit from Pistolgear and had a friend install it while I watched because he has done one before on his own gun. Tonight he installed mine and one in a friends also. Both of these are in XD-45 service models.
While dry firing mine I noticed a problem. Sometimes after racking the slide I pull the trigger and there is nothing. It's like the trigger just never engages at all. Upon trigger reset the second pull of the trigger is fine. This does not happen every time but I would guess out of about 20 dry fires it does it 2 or 3 times. Any ideas what could be wrong or what I need to check?

Change back to the stock sear spring. The reduced power spring isn't strong enought to force the sear up and engage the striker. When the sear was installed was it a tight fit?

Yes, it did appear to be a tight fit, but I was just watching...

Might try sanding the inside of the sear "holes" where the pin that the holds it to the frame goes.
You could also try sanding a bit of metal off the pin but to me that fitting your gun to the sear not the sear to the gun. Sort of like buying a replacement target barrel and then removing metal off of the frame to allow the barrel to fit.

Yes, I agree, I dont want to sand the gun, makes more sense to sand the added parts. Maybe I should take them out and see if I can fit them in "better". So you think the problem is in the sear area and not in the trigger area?

Yep, because of the tight fit and lighter spring the sear isn't going up fast enough to catch the striker and cock the gun. Changing to the stock sear and giving it a try at the range should verify the problem.

Probably not the pin hole but the side of the sear, we are reaming them to 3 mil so there should be no binding there. Take the pin and make sure it spins freely, just as a check
Stone the right side a tad (from the shooters view) so it is not binding when installed and moves freely. You will see where there is metal that can be lowered slightly. Make sure it moves freely before capturing the sear spring. The reduced power sear springs are heavy enough for to return the sears in all the models now. |
