Lead reloads

Neither my Tactical nor the Service pistol will run with SWC bullets because of the aforementioned feeding issues, but a 225 lead truncated cone bullet over 4.8 of Titegroup works fine in both guns. My next loads are going to be 230 roundnose lead, and I expect they'll work okay too, so long as I do my part in the loading process.

Chris, the Hornady RNL is quite soft & they may be your problem. I get my XDTAC this weekend & am planning a breakin & test w/ a bunch of diff. ammo. Stay tuned.

I find it odd that anyone would take a brand new pistol that they haven't even field stripped yet and use it in competition...or even use it at all without first field stripping and doing at least a mild clean/lube. You never know what happened to it before you got your hands on it. Granted, it SHOULD work out of the box but there are too many unknowns once it leaves the factory.

+1 If nothing else, just to get the packing/machining crud off/out before you break it in.

Ok, the pistol is back in action. I'm actually a bit embarrassed about the "fix". I wasn't letting the slide go into battery on it's own power, I was always "helping" it along with my hand. Under it's own power it eats everything just fine. I ran through several mags just to be sure, factory ammo, reloads, and mixed factory/reloads without a hitch.

Anyway, thanks for all the tips/ideas everyone chimed in with. Chalk one up for the newbie.

Don't take it easy on the pistol, as you now know- they are made to cycle.... Slingshot that sucker into battery.

With respect to field stripping before shooting... always a good policy.
A *little* smear/dollop of grease in the bore, mixed with lead/powder/crud could cause unwanted issues far quicker that a squeaky clean bore.

(I only point out the merely obvious)

Glad it turned out to be nothing.

Well the army uses the M-16 and that sure as heck doesn't like to fire when dirty so that must not be a critera for a combat weapon.
