Does anyone out there have a recipe for reloading .45 for the xd? My father-in-law has a reloader and i want to start reloading for myself, i don't want to buy the wrong stuff. he has a lyman's reloading book with tons of stuff in it. my question to you is: anyone reloaded with jacketed hollow points,semi-wad cutters, or round nose? also, if you have used any of these and have a good powder/bullet recipe that works good for the xd, i would really appreciate the info.
thanks

Reloading .45acp for XD
I use Bear Creek moly coated 200 gr. SWC. 5.2-5.6 of 231 or HP-38. 1.230 OAL. .470 crimp, WLP. This has worked flawlessly for me.

I have a bunch or recipes... all of them work.
************************************************** Before I post this... I take absolutely NO responsibility for anyone's use of this information. It is for discussion purposes only and NOT a recommendation or suggestion. Use it, or not, at your own risk! ************************************************** The best I've come up with accuracy-wise so far... is 4.6grs of Bullseye under a 185gr Sierra Tournament Match FPJ (flat point jacketed) bullet, Remington brass, Federal 150 LP primer. OAL = 1.165", .471" crimp Shoots a nice, tight 1-inch group offhand at 10 yards from my XD-45 Service. What I shoot most through it though--because I can load them up for about 9-cents a round--is 3.8grs of Clays, under a 230gr MasterBlasters moly round nose bullet, Remington brass, Fed 150 primer. OAL = 1.245", .471" crimp Shoots about 724fps (average) and about a 2-inch group at 10 yards if I'm careful

4.4 grains of clays, under 230 gr montana gold FMJ, OAL: 1.265. It's milder than factory but still makes power factor for IDPA. Accurtacy is excellent

I have never gotten a SWC to feed reliably thru my XD45... thru everything else but not this one. Right now I am using a Berrys 185 RNHB over 4.8 grns of Titegroup, OAL 1.25. Soft, accurate, and reliable.

I just worked one up
Dont try lead 200 or 185 SWC's, at least until you get good at the heavier bullets. Buy factory for the fun and for the brass to see what JHP's it will feed. They might work with a different spring.
I can give you good one that I worked up this spring. Rem cases, nickle, WLP primers, 4.5 gr. Win 231, 225 gr truncated cone witha taper crimp at the mouth to .472in. Over all length would be the amount that leaves the cartridge head even with the end of the barrel with the barrel out of the gun. The bullet is then snug up against the lands and will give you great accuracy. This is a medium load and what you might want to start with. Mine is really good with this load and all factory stuff that I have tried. Good luck and don't double charge. |

I've been using precision bullets 200 grain round nose with 5.1 grains of accurate #2. It cycles every time, has pretty low recoil, and great accuracy.

I have only been reloading for a little over a year. This is what works for me. I only load RN 230 grn bullets. I would rather buy my SD HP's.
I have been using 4.5 grns of Bullseye and have not had any problems and the accuracy is good. Good Luck |
