My first handgun experiance was with a glock 19. Paper plate stuck on wire fence at about 20 yards. 50 rnds later there was 2, count 'em, 2 holes in the plate. I grew up shooting rifles and if the group is bigger than 1.5 inches at 100 yards it is not good enough for me.
When I got into hand guns, I was a horrible shot. My shooting buddy has al least 10000 rnds just out of one of his glocks and I was comparing myself to him. Bad Idea. Last time I was at the range, which is an outdoors, there was another guy and myself. The range had just opened and I went out the the 25 yard range, grabbed the target stand and dragged it to about 7 yards. The other guy gave me a funny look and asked if we could shoot the targets at such a close range. I explained that I had a new hand gun and wanted to make sure all of the shots got on the target. Shoot where your are comfortable. I have about 500 rnds out of my XD 45 and I doubt that I could even hit the paper at 25 yards. That is way we practice and practice and practice. one word of advice above all others from me is DO NOT SPEED SHOOT until you are comfortable and accurate. It is a lot of fun to blast away as fast as you can, but it develops bad habits and your accuracey sucks. my $0.02 worth. |

Yep, move closer, work on your trigger control, and set yourself up for some success. It's supposed to be fun! I have the red dot on my AR zeroed for 25 yard targets.

i think my big break-through with pistols when target shooting was letting the shot 'surprise' me.

Screw that, just tape 'em up to your neighbors fence and fire away!
Ok, not really.
