Trading XD 45 Service for Compact

Hi Gang,

I am seriously considering trading my beloved SAXD-45ACP Service model for a SAXD-45 Compact.

My reason for trading it in is this is/will be my carry gun. The Service grip is long and prints a great deal. I'm wondering how much .75 inches shorter grip is going to make in that department. I also love the fact that when I go to the range, I can pop in the 13-Round magazine and have the full comfort of a service length grip.

I have had my SAXD-45 since November '06 and have around a thousand rounds through it. Its in great shape. I've treated it with much love and care. How much do you think a trade up is going to cost me?

I've owned both and prever the Compact for concealed carry. You might move this to the Trading Post section if you decide to trade. Since you have about 1K rounds through the service, I imagine it would cost you apprx. $100 - $140 to upgrade to a new Compact. However, someone might just trade you for their used Compact for your used Service

I currently own both as well.

Neither are for sale!

Both have their strong points. I'm still getting used to the compact, but it is a **BIT** easier to carry and I also like carrying 2 of the 10 round mags, instead of the 13 rounders. The smaller mags are lighter and less bulky.

Having said that, I can carry my service all day comfortably. It only prints if I bend over forward quite a bit. My compact will do that too though.

If you're printing just walking around, etc, I'd say you might wanna look at a different holster set-up.

I carry with a Crossbreed supertuck deluxe IWB. I used a couple of OWB holsters before and they did print much more. IWB's use the belt pressure to hold the gun much tighter to your body, so I don't print at all during normal conditions.

I dunno what holster you have, and I didn't like the thought of IWB at first, but now, I won't carry OWB ever again...

Personally, I don't like the shorter grip of the Compact. I carry the Service all the time and have never had a problem. And all I use is a cheap-o Uncle Mike's neoprene IWB. Matter of fact, I was carrying all day today amongst many of the city's finest, and not one officer noticed.

I also prefer to have the full compliment of 13+1 .45ACPs on board if I ever have to use it. Many may consider that excessive, but much like good luck, you can also never have enough ammo!

Cheers! M2

in my opinion, i feel like the xtend magazine doesnt feel as whole as a service grip... but then again, i think the compact grip is perfect, if i were to get the compact, i think i would just stick to 10 rounders, for both range and carry.

I own a compact and my stepbrother owns a tactical. He has told me a few times that he wishes he would have gotten the 4in. model. The only reason is for carry. He has a small frame and the 5" barrel is cumbersome he says. I love the compact myself and it's a nail driver at 10-15yds if you practice with it.

I replaced my Compact with the Compact Tactical. I have no problem concealing the extra 1" of barrel. I guess it depends on how you carry (for me, IWB, FIST Kydex #7 holster). If you can conceal a Compact-with the 10rnd mag, you should be able to conceal the Comp Tac

^^ I agree. He also reloaded 50 rounds without checking the diameter and ever last one caused a Failure to feed.

Trade it for the compact. You are loosing nothing in ergonomics with the extended mag and gaining more ease of concealment. Win Win
