45 Acp

I read somewhere that the 45 ACP bullet drops about a foot at 100 yds. If someone knows if this is true or not pls. advise. If the round drops that far then what would it be at say 25 yds or less? Maybe a hand loaders book might tell. Does anyone know anything about this? I don't plan on shooting the XD at 100 yds but the though did cross my mind about bullet drop and at what distance this might start to happen.

it depends on what you're shooting, standard or +p rounds, bullet weight, what your gun is "sighted in" at from the factory.

what type of ammo are you talking about? you shouldn't need to worry about 25 yards, let alone 100 for self defense shooting.

At 100 yards, your 45 is what you use to fight your way back to your rifle.

I am using 230 gr ball ammo, Winchester. I do target shooting out to 75 feet. I was curious if there was any appreciable drop at 75 ft. I seem to have to aim above the bull instead of aiming dead center. closer distances seem to be fine.

well, ok, that makes sense, 75 feet is significantly different than the 100 yards in the first post.

i guess if you're target shooting at 75 feet, and your shooting lowing when aiming dead center, get adjustable target sights or shoot enough to figure out what your point of impact is when your shooting dead center at 75 feet. then you can figure out how many inches you need to compensate.

i wouldn't think there would be much drop at all at 25 yards. 830 ft/sec means that bullet is covering those 75 feet in less than 1/10th of a second.
