XD45 owners... Help a brother out!
Sorry to begin my posting on XDTalk on a sour note, but I am looking for help!
Man am I disappointed. After all my failure-to-feed issues with my first XD 45 purchased last summer, Springfield replaced the gun (their techs also had the problems both times I sent the ugn in). So, I get a BRAND NEW bi-tone XD .45 shipped to my house. Beautiful!! For the first 250 rounds (mostly FMJ, but some JHP), the gun was great. Super accurate, fun to shoot, reliable, etc. Then my last trip to the range was less enjoyable. Decided to test some more defense loads like HST +P, and the SAME fail-to-feed problems began to occur. Top round in magazine would nose-dive. Or, the round would feed straight up and miss the chamber. This happened with tight grips, loose grips, etc. VERY FRUSTRATING! Any XD owners out there experienced these issues? This is a great gun in terms of fit, ergonomics, accuracy, capacity, etc... so I really want to fix it, but I'm not sure what to try next. Any suggestions? |

Did they send the gun back with the same Mags or new Mags???
How often do you clean it??? Is the feed ramp smooth??? Many questions...

Good questions...
Yes, the new gun came with everything new- pistol, 2 mags, case, holster... all the XD gear. I was impressed! I clean it pretty regularly, after each range trip-- about 100-150 rounds. Of course I lube it as well, and ensure a clean feed ramp. I've never used a Dremel or anything to polish the feed ramp, but apparently SA did that on the 1st trip into the shop. The failures usually don't happen with a full magazine- typically, its more towards the middle. Occasionally its the first round. Keep the questions coming! Number the mags with a marker and see if the failure tracks with one mag. If it tracks with a mag, see if you can fix the mag. If both fail, you may have a gun problem.
Try other ammo. If everything feeds but HST, don't buy it. Some basic info here: http://www.brazoscustom.com/magart/0403.htm http://www.brazoscustom.com/magart/0405.htm My XD 45 is the most reliable functioning (semi-auto) gun I have owned. I have only fed 4 brands of FMJ's and one brand of HP (Gold Dot) through it though, so there may be a flavor it doesn't like. Good luck! |

is it the same ammo that clogged your last XD?
some guns just don't like certain ammo. try different brands/loads until you find something that you and your gun like. or, call SA again and get them to fix it. your XD might just need more break in time...did you clean it right out of the box? |

Someone else posted FTF issues with HST in .45 IIRC. I have around 1350 rds through my XD45 without a single FTF or FTE issue. I have shot Hydra-shok, Corbon DPX and Winchester JHPs through it. I have not tried the HSTs yet. Is the bullet nose perhaps hanging up on the ramp or locking block and over time roughing it up thereby causing more future FTF issues?

Make sure all rnds are set toward the back of the mag. Tap the mag on your leg & set them towards the back of the mag! Try this, I know it's frustrating

I've had more problems with HST ammo jamming due to the extra wide mouth of the hollow point, with several different guns and different calibers. I don't buy HST anymore. Try different PD ammo, like Gold Dots, Win Ranger, etc.
