I shot off a mag of HST the other day, and had a similar failure to feed,
about halfway through the mag the slide locked back partially and there was a round in the mag pointing somewhat downward, racked the slide and it fed and the rest of the mag ran fine.

I shot great with the HST, and the recoil was suprisingly mild for +P,

But if it's not reliable in my XP, then I don't trust it to carry, maybe Rangers, Golden Sabre or Power Ball

Never used HST brand ammo. Just WWB and have never had any problems with my XD45.

Probably just ammo your gun does not like.

I appreciate all the replies so far! I really want this XD45 to be my primary home defense gun, and with its superb accuracy, I can see myself taking it to the range often.

I'll give these suggestions a try. With my 1st XD, I tried many different types of JHP's, but I have not experimented with the 2nd one yet. I'll try some Gold Dots and Ranger.

Does anyone understand the "whys" behind the nose-diving? I've heard of other pistols doing this, so apparently its not an uncommon failure, but I just can't figure out what goes wrong during the slide cycle that makes a round Nose-dive in the magazine.
Thanks again.

I recently sold a 1911 to a friend for a pretty steep price, but its rare and exactly what he wanted so it all worked out. I had the pistol for 15 years with maybe 3 failure to load problems ever. His first trip to the range was disasterous. He was really freaked out. He had failure to feeds, failure to ejects, stovepipes, double feeds you name it. I was also concerned since he was a friend and since I now had so much of his money in my pocket. Haha. He took it to the gunsmith at the range who said there was nothing wrong with the gun itself. He went back to shoot some more, more problems. So I went with him and went thru 200 rds without a single problem. Handed it over to him, first mag he had two jams. His masculinity was a little offended when I told him he had to hold onto the gun better, but after a few quick pointers he was shooting like a man, and also far more accurately. I think the term the gunsmith used after explaining the situation to him was "limp-wristing" which further embarassed my friend. Lol. From my experience, 45's are far more apt to misfire due to a weak grip than most other calibers. I duno, SA makes a pretty quality item, and seeing as how many are out there without problem, I'd be interested to look into your grip technique to see if maybe thats the problem. Try letting a few other people fire your gun and see what happens. I could understand getting one lemon but to be sent another one is pretty crazy odds. Good luck, I hope you don't get too discouraged, you really do have one of the finest bang/buck firearms out there today imo

Cool

I had a batch of HST where the OAL of several were out of spec. Seems the old box had the old style plastic separator which allowed something heavy, such as other HST boxes, to squash the rounds.

Voila! instant 45ACP shorts. Of course the store couldn't take them back-due to return rule on ammo.

Buzzards.
