DEAD ON w/ XD40 Service, all over w/ XD45Compact
I own two XD's. A XD40 Service which I shoot matches with and an XD45 Compact which I carry daily... This upcoming sunday is an IDPA match that I was going to shoot my XD45 Compact (stock) so I took her out to the range today. 300 rounds later I realized quickly I don't/can't control my XD45 Compact NEAR as well as my XD40 Service.
I chaulk it up to one of a few things. (a)Extra "blam" out the barrel, (b) extra width on the frame (c) extra recoil, (d) jXD45 Compact not as accurate as XD40 Service (e) sights on XD45 are TFO, sights on XD40 are Tru-GLo Tritums... Generally, I'm shooting low on the XD45, I slow paced, make sure I controlled the trigger, put some snap caps in at random to check for "pushing" of which I couldn't see any issue... What do you guys think? I rented a Beretta PX4 Storm (9mm) and fired 100 rounds through it. I was DEAD ON with the 9mm (except for the first double action shot, which I HATE and is why I left without the Beretta...). I also fired 60 rounds out of my XD40 Service which I had with me also and had no issues with that either.. So it can't be blamed on "a bad day" at the range...

Mine didn't. In fact if I remember correctly, I was a little more accurate with my XD45 than my XD9 Tac even though I had the XD9 for a bit before the XD45. Now I have noticed after a good bit of shooting during a range visit I'll get a bit worn out and with the XD45 I will lose accuracy then.

Don't get me wrong, I can't think of a better CCW weapon then the XD45 Compact... Even shooting low I won't give it up for anything else.. But for IDPA patch, 2" - 3" low & a few fly'ers could make a good score turn bad real quick...

Jeff, send it to me for a couple months and I'll try it out for you and let you know
Seriously, a buddy of mine has an XD40 service and I have a XD45c service, and I don't notice that much difference, except the .45 grip (with extended mag) is a more comfortable size for me.

It very well could be. If you feels a little large in your hands are you maybe squeezing your hands as you pull the trigger causing a bit of a dip in the barrel? I would suggest you throw a snap cap in each and do maybe 5 dry fires apiece and then alternating and focus on what the front sight does as you pull the trigger on each. It may tell you what you are doing differently. *shrug*

Just curious...how many rounds do you have through the 45 and the 40?

The XD40 is a year or so order then my XD45, so I've probabaly got 3,500 - 4,000 through it.

I am sure this does not pertain to you, but many people shoot low because they flinch in anticipation of recoil.
The other reason is that the front sight is too high (or the rear sight too low). I am sure you already know this, but I am writing this for anyone new reading this thread. |
