First time out XD .45 compact

Got to try out my new XD .45 compact over the weekend. Shot 200 rounds
of Federal 230 Jacketed without any failures. Using a BG target the first ten
rounds were off to the left around 7 o'clock. Thought it might be how I was
on the trigger and might have caused me to jerk the shot. Changed my stance and instead of trying to line up all three white dots, I focused on the
front sight and shot pretty much poa on the bad guy. The gun felt really comfortable in my hands and probably can shot better than I can. Any thoughts on how to best use sight picture and stance with this xd. I am
happy with the xd so far and plan to put several hunderd through it this
week.

This website has a good troubleshooting target you can use that will tell you what you are doing wrong. It has one for righties and lefties.

Low Left is very common, and commonly caused by trigger "pushing" to the left (assuming you are right handed) as you pull the trigger. Practice pulling straight back and You'll notice it'll clean up the low left issues.

I agree with Jeff's statement. However, I would also add that it's seems to be that the XD shoots low left right out of the box for just about everyone. It did for me off sand bags and it took several light and progressive whacks at the rear sight to at least get the windage straighened out.

The majority of magazine write ups I have seen thus far (which include a targets shot off sandbags) shows the same grouping - low and left.

The most recent example is in the June 2007 issue of Guns magazine at page 54.

Springfield really needs to equip the XD with some adjustable sights (non snag and robust like Novaks) to make it to the very top of the class.

I shot low left for quite a while ... still do when I anticipate My CCW instructor, to check whether it was me or the XD, put 3 rds @ 7 yds in an overlapping group. That proved it was me. As far as your stance question, I don't find it matters. I shoot either isosceles or chapman depending on situation and find them equally effective for the XD. Sight picture is apparently dialed-in to be 6 o'clock @ 15 yds from the factory. I find this to be generally true although maybe closer to 10 yds for mine.
