Strange Rattle

Just got my XD 45 compact yesterday. I've noticed something that bothers me just a bit. With the 10 rnd clip full, i put it in my XD........if i shake the gun (even slightly) there's a rattle.

Now, if i chamber a round, or only load a clip with 9 rounds (and don't chamber)......the rattle is gone. I take the clip out, the rattle is gone. I lock the slide back, the rattle is gone. I've taken it apart a couple of times and can't figure where that damn rattle is coming from.

Anyone else have similar issues? Get the 10 rnd clip, fill it, now put it in your XD without chambering a round. Shake the gun, see if you have a slight rattle.

Any ideas?

Have you tried shaking the magazine with the 10 rounds in it to see if that is what is making the rattle noise?

My 10 round compact mag does the same thing. With 9 rounds, nothing. When I put the 10th round in, it sounds like 2 of the ones closer to the base start rattling.

I have that problem with magazines rattling with certain amounts of rounds in them... It is probably the pressure on the top round of the loaded mag that puts them in the right position to rattle. I can't think of a solution short of modifying the mag spring or the follower.

Yeah, its the magazine. Give it a good slap against your kevlar...or the palm of your hand...to seat the rounds in the rear of the magazine. That will top it for a while, but if you carry it all day, it will be rattling by the end of shift.

Really long time skulker; really new newbie. My mags rattle too. At least one of them does, but only in the .45. I don't know why and don't care why; stealth isn't an issue here. Everything I've read says just shoot it.

Is this the kind of muted rattle between the magazine and the hollow plastic inside of the grip? All my XDs do that. I don't hear loose rounds inside the mag itself.

I was thinkin' all loaded guns rattle a little don't they? Grabbed one of the Colt 1911s. So much rattles on it I couldn't name it all. Then grabbed a 44 mag revolver with 240 gr HPs. It's like 6 little bells going "jingle jingle".

So my XDs are the quietest I got.

I am somebody that goes crazy with "rattles". I think the 10 round "mags" work better than the 10 round "clips" in XD's anyday.
